Display backlight.

Can anyone recommend a good display/screen light/set up that will work well on a Safari? I've played with some l.e.d. lights but haven't found a set up that works well without the glare from the plexiglass/lexan screen. I want to detect more in low light conditions and don't want to have to quit when the sun goes down!. Thanks in advance for your recommendations and ideas.

can't help on the back-light, but I just break out the head lamp. I can see the readout and what I digging and whats in the scoop. It works just fine even though I always wear a baseball cap, the bill does not get in the way.

I use something similar; one of those lightweight LED lights that are made to clip onto the bill of a baseball cap.

Thanks for the feedback! I too wear a baseball cap virtually all of the time so although Ive tried a clip on light before, I'll go with that again. I'm still going to try different screen light set ups and will share anything that might help others with the same challenge (detecting in low light conditions)

I have a ball cap with 3 LEDs built into the Bill of ball cap not clipped on it has 3 modes of operation I use it for everything even on all house repairs runs on 4-2032 batteries last between 60 and 80 hours.

Thanks for that idea! I was out detecting as the sun was setting in a local park the other day and was sifting through my brain all the ideas that have been suggested and currently I have a BBcap with led's with what you just suggested. It works pretty good although there tends to be a little glare off the screen but not to where it's too much of a glare. I think I'll try installing a light/s around the base of the lower shaft to illuminate the coil and away from the coil as well.
In the summer, do you find your fighting off bugs including mosquito's etc; as they are naturally attracted to the light on the cap? It gets crazy hot here in Southern California and I usually have to spray a liberal dose of Deet all over my cap and clothes so it might not be a problem?

In Illinois we get hot and muggy with a huge array of bugs, mosquitoes so thick you could paint a large picture in mid air.But for some reason about 2 hours after sunset it all calms down not so bad hunting at night.Night hunting in the center of plowed fields is almost bug free unless there is water near by.I normally just turn light on to pinpoint throw my Leshe digger at pinpoint spot recover target.The bugs do not draw as bad to LED lights.I tried one of those battery powered bug zappers last with some success a to decoy away from me.I bumped into guy one night that had string of little led lights about size of pin head that ran on 1 AA battery,string was about 4 feet long on the screen and down the shaft of his detector looked like it worked pretty good said he got them from his wife's Christmas decorations he did not know where she got it.
