Do any of you use the little 5" DD or the 8" DD coil?

Do any of you use the little 5" DD coil or the 8" DD? I want to get one as I hunt in really trasy places, but I don't know if they are worth the money. What kind of depth do you get out of them? Any thoughts? Thanks...

I just got the 5" excellerator coil. In an airtest it hits a dime at 7" with sens on 23(on an EXII).

I have the 5" excellerator, good depth and separation.I don't use it a lot but when I need it ,it's great to have. Easy to swing around tight places. Just remember, it does not cover much ground on a swing, but it is a great addition that everyone should have as a "go to" in case its needed.

Especially the Sun Ray X-5. Very good in trashy sites. Depth is 5-6 inches on coin size targets. Minelabs FBS 800 coil (7.5" dia) is another great trash coil. It comes with the lower shaft and hardware, (good buy, and effective) depth is more, as is the Sun Ray X-8 coil. Smaller coils are the best in trash. Good hunting, David@Dixie

In super trashy sites, you need a smaller coil to pick out the good stuff even with the E-Trac. I've got both of these on spare lower shafts to make change-out easier and in the right location, they produce amazingly well. Remember, DD coils tend to loose very little detection depth as compared to concentric coils so you can still get decent depth even with a smaller coil.

You can pick up the 5" Excelerator coil for just under $100 which is a pretty good deal for a spare coil for use in select applications. The 8" coil covers a bit more ground with each sweep but looses a little in terms of seperation compared to the 5" coil.

Hope this helps

the same depth for me that the 8" coils do...while separating like a 5" coil. In fact...I honestly sold both of my mid sized coils after putting some time on the 6" Excelerator. Hitting injuns and silver were absolutely the norm at 8"...and I found quite a few as deep as 9" with that coil. It's amazing...and it was an eye opener when I used it for the first time. It hits deep silver and injuns like a sledgehammer...and most of the time there would be trash in the hole with the coin...either beside it...beneath it...or on top of it. The 6" coil is a weapon in the trash...and can be a lethal side kick to the pro coil or 10 x 12 S.E.F. coil...or ANY stock sized coil.

I'm a bit of a multi detector and a fanatic multi coil user for each detector and love to hunt very trashy sites and can say since i've been using the 6" EXcelerator on both an Explorer XS and Explorer 2 i'm sold on this combo at my sites for depth and separation, you have to go slow but it's a good slow because you just feel it's gonna produce something Nice. Also have the SunRay 8" and is also excellent on depth and separation and not sure which is best vs the 6" EXcelerator but going smaller should produce better separation. Used the SunRay S5 on a Sovereign GT and went deep with excellent separation.I also love the newer SE Pro coil on the EX 2. I never thought of the Explorer as a detector for hunting very trashy sites but i'm more and more convinced it's great at the task using these great coils. HH Bill
