hi
today I found a site where for the past 30 years parents have parked their cars in this dirt area to drop off or pick up the kids from school. I know this because for about fourteen of those years i did the same thing ( my niece then son). I went there today with my quattro and got some very good tones and reading using the coin and jewely preset factory setting. keep in mind I am mding only about one month. Now here is the problem the ground is so packed down by all of those cars that I could only dig about1/2 inches with my sabertooth. What tool do i need to dig through packed dirt?

You could try using a screwdriver to loosen sections of the packed ground before digging it out, there is always the chance of scratching coins when digging them out of hard ground. This is not so much of a problem if the coins you are looking for are current circulation coins and are going to be spent anyway.

I went to home depot and bought a small pick hammer kind of thing. It was over in the garden tool section, and it looks just like a big pick ax in a sense, only it's a one hand-er and not that hard to carry around. It's maybe 17" long or so. If I were you I'd just dig around the signal, to loosen up the ground, then re check the signal and keep digging with a hand shovel or something. I also bought a small hand shovel that's about the same length. Maybe 2 feet long or so, but small enough to carry on a hunt. I don't think either of them was over 10 bucks each. More like $6 or 7$ or so. Good hunting, and that sounds like a fun spot to hunt. Marc Trainor
