The weather has broke its nice out this coming weekend including Friday there is a 3 day hunt on 80 acres of very old farm land 250 300+ years so i got my machines all ready to go i have the Sov.GT and my old buddy the DFX ive had that now 4 years i know that machine inside and out it,s a great relic finding machine i have a 10x12 SEF on it very deep !! so what did i do ?? over loaded my hands with to much stuff and dropped the DFX right on the key pad box :veryangry: it popped open and spilled it,s guts grrrrrrrrr dam it !!!! i tryed its dead i call the repair center in Virginia they said mail it they will take care of it very low prices to i have delt with them before a bunch of great people !! so it looks like ill be using my GT for 3 days which is good the S-12 coil is fantastic . My point for this post go slow take your time and hold on to very expencive MD,s HH Jim

Sorry to hear about that. Don't mean to bust your chops but you will be doing better with the GT. The DFX, like the V3, IMHO needs too much tweaking to get the best performance out of it pertaining to specific ares you are hunting. I used to be a huge Whites fan but they lost me with all the complex controls that need to be tweaked for max depth and performance. Minelabs take care of much of the things you need to set up thanks to BBS and FBS technology. Give the GT a fair shot and I'll bet you'll soon favor it for hunting. A friend had a DFX. Even when it was tweaked just right for the site it still didn't have the depth of a Minelab.

Hi Critter i wont debate that but for farm fields just plowed 8 to 10 inches is plenty plu s i make my own custem programs so there really isnt not to much tweaking . HH Jim

The only advantage the DFX would have is for finding smaller/fine jewlery such as earings and such. Gold rings and coins the GT will hit deeper on.

Believe me, I used to be the biggest Whites fan there was. They just started substituing performance for programming options and that's where they lost me. I also don't like the higher frequency more simple machines they've come out with (M6, MXT). They don't do well in my soil. I liked the low frequency more "simple" units they used to have (QXT, Classic ID, etc), which got deeper in my soil and hit better on copper/silver. Only problem is those machines didn't have the larger coil options or performance to get as deep as the Minelabs do. If White would come out with a low hassle (meaning not too many programming requirements) low frequency machine that had 10 and 12" DD coils and the performance to get close to the Minelabs in depth they'd probably have me back as a customer. The Whites are built MUCH better than the Minelabs in terms of weight and balance/user friendly hardware. But they just don't have the performance to make them worth the effort these days IMHO.

Thanks for the reminder and sorry to hear of your misfortune. Hopefully the repair center can fix the unit and give it a clean bill of health. Not trying to down play the situation but at least you have another detector to go hunting with for the trip. I just think if it was me, I would be out altogether as I only have one detector (Sov GT) and would really be Best of luck on your 3 day hunt. - Jim

I'm sorry for your DFX, hey but look at the Britte side, wile in for repairs they will give be testing the machine like there is no tomorrow and when you get it back should be FINE TUNED! just like new.
