Do some Metal detecting in Grays Harbor, WA

Hi all,

I just bought a used White's DFX 2 days ago. Found $1.36 already. Woohoo! Anyway pretty much semi-retired & split time between Seattle & Ocean Shores. I would love to get together sometime with someone in Grays Harbor, OS, maybe some different places to learn about my machine, places to go, have some fun & learn something. It seems here in Seattle there are lots of restrictions. I am still learning where I can go.

Though my time is somewhat limited somewhat also between work, getting ready for move, grandkids, etc. Anyway, maybe someone out there to hook up sometime.

Hunting spots are a pretty rare thing anymore.
I have hunted the Long beach stretch a bit and wasn't too impressed with my finds.
Just not a lot of sunbathers on the Wa coastline. Clam diggers are upright too much to lose much I guess.
 
and you may want to find the older parks, fields and woods for some good hunting locales ok. Old Trails can offer abandoned homesteads or Camps ok. They are usually fairly good areas. Thing to remember is that in Metal Detecting it is not always about quantity but about Quality ok. One good find can make up for 100 regulat ones ok. The biggest thing detecting will teach you is patience. Plus you will get to enjoy the outoors more and meet a lot of great people. Anyway. Best Wishes. PEACE:RONB :thumbup:
 
Hi Socks. I have to agree with Barker. The real trick in metal detecting nowadays is to do historic research. It quality, not quantity. So many areas are closed off by the federal/state gov't. I looked up your location on Google maps. You are surrounded by federal/state controlled land:( However, if you do historic research you can find old areas, probably under private ownership. Ask permission of owners always. You would be suprised how many yes's you get from owners of land if you approach them in a professional & respectful manner. Tell them you are looking for history, not money:) Mentioning money always seems to mess the process up. There is a excellent maps forum here at Findmall and perhaps a member of that forum can point you in the right direction for old maps/research of your area. Some public/university libraries have online/microfilm access to old Sanborn fire insurance maps which are incredibly detailed city maps circa 1870-1940's for the whole USA at the time. Post your request on the Maps & Mapping Forum here at FindMall. Its listed on the page that lists all of FindMalls different forums.
