Do you ever sell your finds?

My wife and I have an ongoing discussion about my detecting hobby. She thinks I should sell my silver and other finds so I can pay for stuff like gas, hunts etc. After all, the ad says " Its the hobby that can pay you back!" Now I think selling what I find somehow goes against the "Metal Detecting Gods" beliefs and if I do sell anything, I'll never find anything ever again! So I guess my question is, do you, or have you ever sold your silver or other items that you found? Thanks guys, Duane

I found a "Joseph Lesher Referendum Dollar" once. It's a very rare, privately made token made by Mr. Lesher in Victor, Colorado. I found the coin in Sebring, Florida of all places. I was a starving college kid and I sold it for 240.00. Now I found out the coin is unbelievably rare and the coin shop I sold it too still has it. Google it and you'll see a reference to it. This particular token was made for "Geo. Mullen".
His name was on the token. You can also see the coin likeness in the Red Book. Silver dollar sized with
6 sides. I've never sold another thing.

Nope, I save everything except the clad. I was thinking of selling the gold I have found, but why, it didn't cost me anything.

I sold my gold this year, along with a few damaged silver coins and silver jewelry. I had some other scrap gold and silver as well. I regret it a bit, but the $750 check was more useful to me. I still have almost all of my silver coins. I found two gold rings this year and quite a bit of silver jewelry already to replace what I cashed in.

I say to my wife "look this coin I just found is worth XX and she says no its not cause you will never sell it"

I clean the clad and turn it in. I've never sold anything, but I have donated some things to a local historical society.

Yes, one time when I was very poor and I regreted it ever since.. Don,t do it unless it's clad. You will feel bad afterwards. Good hunting.

Basically the only coins I keep are the ones that are already worth a decent amount or ones I know will appreciate at a good clip. If you saw my Pine Tree Shilling post, because I had an agreement with the homeowner, I had to sell that!

I clean and sell all my clad, then I watch the silver market and sell all the common silver when the price goes way up, like when it was near $20 fairly recently. I use all that money to buy key date coins, golf equipment and things for my wife and I.

Just thought I put in my 2 cents worth (and I still have the 17 that I've found!!)

Yea sure I do but I keep the nicest ones for my collection.
In time you run out of space to keep things!
I always offer club members are land owners first dibs.

My wife recently grabed all the gold and silver jewlery that I found over the last several years, not that I had a ton of it, and sold it along with some of her stuff that she no longer wanted.

I tell you what. I find something and it's worth 5 or 6 figures, even 4 figures. I guarantee you I'll sell it in a heartbeat.
