Do you still remember the one thing that made you pick up a Metal Detector and bring you to this forum of ...............

the basics,no headphone jack,no disc, nuttin just a meter and turn on knob  but it sure was fun tho
Then I had a Brinks back in 72 after the jetco, then a bunch o whites units and minelabs and shadows :D and the green machines.

Had so many detecting trips and fun along the way I will always remember them all and would not trade the time in the woods and fields and all the finds both good and bad for nothing

Growing up tho I was fascinated with history and still am  and detectin is in my history growing up and always will be in my blood :super::smoke:

I was already collecting coins so it made sense (cents for you pun addicts) to go out and find my own. I was saving my allowance for one, didn't really know which one at the time, when my dad brought one home for me that he had purchased from one of his customers. It was an old Whites Coin master BFO. It weighed a ton and took 14 AA batteries to power it. No discrimination and I dug everything. Found quite a bit of stuff throughout my home town considering I used to tear it down, stuff it in a back pack and bicycle all over town to hunt potential sites that I had thought of. It had a meter but it just swung to the right as the sounds in my headphones got louder. Had a lot of fun until I discovered girls and shelved it until I moved to college and upgraded.

Old man Streeter had two sons that ran the place, Tom was the serious type, and George was the goof. Remember Argosy magazine? It had treasure stories I read as a kid. Anyway, George decides one day he wants to get into metal detectors on the side, so he bought a couple of Compass 66Bs. After he'd been out a few times he asked me if I wanted to go detecting and I said "Sure". We hunted an old church outside of Keene, New Hampshire. One of my first coins was a Mercury dime and I thought it was so cool. Then I dug an 1868 two cent piece; I didn't even know the US made a two cent coin! That pretty much sold me on detecting and I bought the machine I was using for the incredible sum of $130. You dug every beep, it could be a hub cap or a gum wrapper, you never knew. I made some good finds in the first couple of years, including my only dollar coin; a 1922 Peace dollar.

George still sells detectors; heres a link to his website: http://www.streeter.org/community/ It was the first forum I ever joined. If you scroll down to the Most Read Stories section, the "Hunting Virginia" ones are mine. I still have several stories and photo albums archived there. Vernon wrote for him too.

As for finding this place  I don't know, guess I hung out with the wrong crowd :buds: ;)
