Do you think your detector loses depth when you apply discrimination????.....Please explain clearly, what you mean.....MattR.UK

I believe have faster recovery than the ETrac. I know the F-75 does, I ran them side by side. The F-75 was getting targets the ETRac (with discrim up) couldn't pick up. I don't know about the Xterra as I have never swung one.

And yes a blank and a null are the same, the noise the detector makes when you go over a target that you have disced out. However, in all metal, when your machine blanks, it has hit a target that it doesn't know how to respond to or a target that is almost nearly out of detection range, which it is getting a signal from but not strong enough for proper tone ID. Some times in that situation you will hear a blank but still get an ID on the screen. Tones are for speed on most detectors and visual is generally a more stable ID because more is processed before it displays ID. But the tones come quicker and in most cases give more "bits" of information, some of those bits are too small too make it passed the filters that decide what the machine displays. So if you choose to use discrimination, you are chopping out allot of the smaller tonal information, that might be of importance.

I would be pleased to discuss this further via PMs if you wish. This way we can avoid upsetting those people who are opposed to these types of technical discussions on the forums.

I second that. I like to see the opposing views so I can reach a reliable conclusion.

When I basically asked the same question a few days ago about "Disc and Depth' I didn't near the response this one's getting.
I'm hurt.:sadwalk:
