Do you use headphones when you metal detect???

I'm just wondering, I don't, only because my machine didn't come with any. Does it make a deference??? One time I was MD by an expressway, I wish I had a pair, it was too noisy. And if you do, are they top-end, middle of the road, or lower-end headphones. I figure I should get some eventually, and I'm not sure if the expensive ones are necessarily the best. Thanks for your input...

Absolutely , I use headphones all the time...the target sounds are more acute ( especially those very faint sounds ) . I use Gray Ghost dual adjusters -I like them very much

I have tried the cheap ones and now will only use the good ones. They help keep the noise around you to a minimum, they also don't let people around you know that you hear a target, they are suppose to help make your batteries last longer, and most of all they will allow you to hear those faint deep signals!
I have a pair of Gray Ghosts and a pair of Killer B's. The best thing about them is they have a lifetime warrenty! :)

Yes, I most certainly do! They help you to hear and distinquish the coin sounds much better than without them! The only thing is that I often cannot hear others that might come upon me or want to talk to me. Very hard to hear what is going on around you when wearing them! I have a pair a man gave me at one of our club hunts and bought some from a catalog, but don't remember what brands they are. I know they are the cheaper ones and I'm sure the better ones cost more but do a much better job of hearing those coins and relics!

God Bless!

1. keeps my ears warm

2, I can concentrate on the sounds and they enham]nce them.

3. keeps me from answering people if I don't want to.

Mainly, they help me to hear the sounds much better - especially the deeper ones that frequently indicate old. And I only go on sounds, havine no meter. I have always used Cal Rad or Garettt ones - about 25 bux. I dont believe the expensive ones are any better. Steve in so az

First of all, I always wear headphones so I can hear the slightest signal. Secondly, who want's to hunt near people with all that noise going off? As far as the quality of headphones is concerned, I could not believe the difference in sound quality when I got my first pair (black widows) Those need some wiring repair so I got a pair of Grey Ghosts. Also outstanding but I really preferred the black widows.

my question is, some of you mention soft tones for deep coins? On the ace250 I have only heard a couple different tones, there is the junk tone and the coin "belltone" and they ALL are LOUD is it different on other machines? Because on the Ace nothing is quiet....lol

I have a pair and have never used them yet, gonna have 2 try em

I understand it this way.....( but anyone please feel free to correct me if I am not right on this)

the" belltone " and "junk tone" are exactly that : tones

The "faint" or "soft" tones are what I consider to be the volume level of these tones....

If there is let's say , a silver ring 12 " deep you will get a "silver tone", but it's volume will be very faint, soft...due to its depth...

If I scan with the coil too fast, I know I will miss these very soft target sounds...so impatient though I am, I try to keep it slow so as not to miss these tiny sounds. It's nice to hear that tiny sound increase in volume as one digs closer to that deep target.

that's the extent of my understanding about this.

Hope it helps you

what would be considered a good pair for detecting? can you just wear whatever headphones are lying around or are there certain ones for detectors?

I think you could use the cheaper ones but the better ones would do bettter, as they are specially made for the more sophisticated detectors! I will let the more experienced Forum members tell you more about them, as I really don't know that much about headphones to give you the knowledge you need! Ma Betty just can't remember too much as I haven't detected in quite awhile. I know you need to use headphones to hear those soft, deeper sounds! Some are better than others!

God Bless & Happy Hunting,
Betty

Gray Ghost or KillerB's. I think you 'd be much better off in the long run spending for quality headphones ....your finds will pay it off quickly.

Good Luck with whatever headphones you choose... HH
