Do your Goldquests "pop" a signal?

I have an old goldquest SS. Every now and then, maybe 1 or twice an hour, it pops. By that I mean it signals a loud target like sound. But then there is no target. One can tell that its not a real target by the suddeness of the signal like it was from no where "BONG". A real target will subtly build up, sound off and have a trailing signal like "wwwwBONGwwww".
Do any of you experience this? I'm just wondering. Its no biggie. The GQ works well all the same.

Could be some sort of electromagnetic pulse, either natural or manmade. I get it here sometimes when I am setting up Goldquests. It is definitely a signal picked up up by the coil and you can see it on the scope, after the first amplifier. I usually get it during the day, rather than evening or night. Where such signals originate is anyone's guess.

I get it too. Sometimes 3 or 4 very loud signals in a row,then nothing strange for between half to one hour then 3 or 4 very load pulsing signals again. Some places I get them regularly, others never. I've noticed its worse if the delay on my GQ is about quater turn back from minimum.

Hi all, I have had similar problem using the Goldquest and the Goldquest SS, mine was caused by my mobile phone! On one particular beach it is worse than others, it is a bad reception area, it's like the phone is trying to connect more often than usual. the only cure switch off the phone. BobUK
 
have no problems except some times there are cables running below the sand and will give up a few odd sounds, move to the side away and it usually clears it ,mobile phones can give a signal I usually keep mine switched off ,anycase who wants to answer when out detecting ,looking forward to the deepstar3 with the pinpointing probe attatched looks a great help on seeking out targets,Ionce had a problem that would not clear, so I tryed taking the battery pack connection off and it was just great straight away after ,Ithink in the minerals on the beach something had got in the compartment when I put case down on sand to change my batteries ,so now im more particular where I change them
 
Yes, I have experienced signals from mobile phones. My son had his mobile when we were out detecting and someone phoned him. The moment before his phone rang, the detector gave a few false beeps.
