Does an elliptical coil throw off depth reading?

INSAYN

New member
Several folks here (and myself) have mentioned that the CTX 17"x 13" coil's depth reading is off by a few inches, where the 6" and 11" round coils are pretty dang accurate.

So, with that I am wondering if the new elliptical Coiltek 10" x 5" is dead on, or if it too is slightly off.

This is just me being curious.

I have not noticed my 17" being off.:nerd:

Te coiltek coil I have used did not show any difference in depth reading. I marked several targets with the pro-coil then changed to the 10x5 and re-checked each one and got identical depths and VDIs.

Overvoltage, you say your 17" reads accurate?

Mine is clearly 2" off, and thought I read here that this was the norm for most as well?

So, I figured it might have something to do with being elliptical.

INSAYN, when using my 17" coil, so long as I have the target centered under the Minelab decal the depth is accurate. Now if I am off center the depth will be off.

My stock coil is usually around 1-2 inches too deep on coin sized objects. Dunno why, its always been this way since I got it.

Same here. My 17 is the same.

My coiltek shows accurate depth. I don't have enough swing time on my 17" to remember if it's accurate too.
