Does anybody know how to save a screen shot of Google Satellite Maps????:throw:

I found some weird looking sites in my local forest preserve using "google maps", using the "satellite" view. But I can't figure out a way to save the screen shot of the area. I want to save it, add some notes, then print it so that I can use it as a map. I tried to right click the mouse, it doesn't give an option to "save picture as". I tried "select all" and "save as", but that just saves the httml. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Or do you know of another website that has satellite pics for free, that you can save and print???

If not, I will have to draw it my self, I would rather have the sat. pic.

If you have Windows Vista, it has in accessories the Snipping Tool. If not, there is a small program called: screen copy.

Your best bet is to download Google Earth. It is free and you can save images easily. You can also use the overlay feature to put historic maps or old aerial photos over the modern images. I use the push pins to mark structures on the historic maps, and then I remove the historic overlay, leaving only the push pins. Take a look at the image below for an example.

Another great site is MSN's live maps. Find the location and then click on "birds eye view" you can even pan the view from different angles! Check out the view below.

This is the coolest thing ever!!! I am gonna use it for everything!!! Thanks a lot!!!!

You can probably hit <SHIFT>+<Print Screen> to copy the entire screen image then you can paste it into Word, Paint, or many other programs.

All of these maps are at least two years old. Does anyone know of an up dated map? or, how ofter do they upgrade them, if ever.....Get dirty..Dirty Don....

Let me try this again. The first time did not post correctly. Hold the shift key while pressing the print screen key to copy the entire screen.

The only problem with live maps dot com is if you live to close to a military base like I do. They still have nukes here so I can't get the birds eye view to work. Got to be some miles away before it kicks in. Other wise, live maps is fantastic!!!

Don,

They recently updated the photos in my area on Google Earth, and I am very upset! The old views were winter views, the new were taken in full foliage. I am no longer able to see foundations and ruins through the trees.

Be careful what you wish for, buddy!

There is a fantastic FREE program called Screen Hunter by Wisdom-Soft. Do a google and it will come up many times. It's a great way to capture any part of the image on your screen. I use it all the time. Give it a try.....

Just for a demo thingy here is a capture I just took of this forum with Screen Hunter........click the program, hit your hot key, draw the box, load the pic......It's great program for sure.

Hi there it is easy press the Ctrl button in the bottm left of the key board while pressesing the PRNT SCRN button (At Same time) is on the top row about 5 or 6 keys from the right (sometimes the button has 2 colors of writieng but it is there) then open microsoft word then hit the right mouse button and choose paste.

I have it set to come on when I hit F2. I use it for resizing pictures. I pull up a fresh picture that is about a meg, Screenhunter it and it makes it about 100K. Perfect for uploading to the web and maintains good clarity.

yea, I have it set to my F6 button and just save the pic's to my desktop. I like it a lot!!!!!

Hello;
I am new to this forum. I was dlooking for an answer to that very same question a few months ago, and after doing a lot of research, I have come up with 2 solutions.

Since Google Maps slices it's satellite images into smaller tiles, you would normally need to save each tile, and put them back together to create a large image. Fortunately, There is a better way. What you need to do is use the (link) feature of Google Maps to create a larger viewing window. Then, use a program like snagit or faststone capture to grab that image. I am creating a course to teach people how to do this, but this is just one of the ways you can get large satellite images from Google maps. There are also other places to get images, but they don't have a link feature like Google maps.

There are also programs that can get the images right from the Google Maps server. Here are a few examples of some posters that I made using this technique.

Firestone Country Club in Akron Ohio
Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen Denmark

These images are quite large and may take a while to load; depending on your internet connection speed.

As for the program that can get the images from Google Maps server, I created a short video to demonstrate how this works.

Watch it here

Hope this helps.
