I was wondering if anyone besides me owns (and uses) the gamma or am I the only idiot to buy the gamma instead of the platinum?

Others here do use the Gamma. Don't confuse the Teknetics Gamma with the Bounty Hunter Platinum. They have a similar control housing appearance, but they are definitely different detectors. The Platinum is in the Omega-style rod & grip configuration, and the Gamma is in the familiar 'S' rod design. However, Gamma works much more like the Teknetics Omega and the Platinum doesn't.kermitdfrog said:I was wondering if anyone besides me owns (and uses) the gamma or am I the only idiot to buy the gamma instead of the platinum?
You're welcome, and no, they aren't the same.kermitdfrog said:I thank you very much for your reply and explanation of differences in these two machines cause allot of people swear they are the same.
I feel you bought the better of the two, to be sure.kermitdfrog said:I did allot of research before I spent the extra $$$ on the gamma instead of the platinum and I felt comfortable with the decision to get what I hoped was superior performance despite the visual similarities, honestly I am not dissatisfied with this machine but I have no baseline for my opinion having not used a platinum.
I like, and use, the stock 8" coil for most typical day-to-day hunting. However, when it gets too trashy and depth of detection is impaired and target masking is severe, I go to the 5" Double-D coil. Then, with the better coil for dense trash, I work it more slowly and methodically and am pleased with the results.kermitdfrog said:I am using the stock 8" coil hunting at times very trashy ground...
Some makes and models are , by design, not able to get adjusted to the point of having any interference. they stay nice and quiet almost all the time and, quite often, lack that extra 'punch' that better models can attain ... if conditions allow.kermitdfrog said:... with more EMI than you can shake a stick at, yes I'm hunting private residences in the suburbs but on ocasion I do get out in the woods or an old home site where I can run the sense at 85-93 but in my usual trashy sites due to EMI I have to keep it low 35-50 depending on how close I am to the interference source, yes I do try to stay away from power lines but some interference is unavoidable.
