Does anyone use their Ace 250 for dry Beach Hunting?

I was actually looking at an M6, but since I am just getting back into detecting, I am really interested in the Ace 250 (I can get one for me and one for my wife to start).

We live in SoCal and would like to beach hunt as well as parks, lots, etc. Do you folks think the Ace 250 will do okay in the sand?

Because of all the great comments, I am sold on the 250, I'm just wondering if it would cover the other areas I want to hit.

They say it's ok in salty sand, but you don't want
to submerge the coil in the water. Not that it's not
waterproof, I just think it does not do well at that type
job. But on the wet sand, they say it's ok. They say dry
sand is even better than wet sand. But these are just
reports I read somewhere. Don't take as gospel..
I'll be trying mine at the beach next time I'm down
there. I assume it's still legal to detect on most TX
beaches..:/ Maybe someone will pop in with some first
hand reports.

The ACE 250 works great in the dry and damp sand. I have had mine since last summer and have found alot of coins and some jewelry on the beach with it. Some areas of our beaches here in NC have black sand mixed in and it handles it well. The only part of the beach that it is weak at is at and in the waterline. You have to turn the sensitivity way down and it is very hard to use the pinpointing in the wet sand.
 
I d say it would be fine, although it would get squirrely at the waterline and beyond - it is a VLF machine, after all. Just turn down the SENS, play with the DISC a bit and learn to use the "MindsEye Pinpoint" method.

You might also want to consider the larger coil for both coverage and a bit more depth.

I have no first hand experience with the 250 yet; mine's on order and due any day. But one of the main reasons I got the 250 is the positive reports from many 250 users about its' success on ocean beaches.

I visit the Florida Treasure Coast 2-3 times a year and wanted a detector that works well in my Iowa soils, but also respectably well on ocean beaches.

I'll be trying it out the first week of March.
 
Check the goodies Ian has found using 150's, basically the same machine without pinpointing. You will see that they do quite well in the sand in Japan.

Don't really know what the sand is like there Eric, but the Ace 150's work fine at beaches around us. Have only come across a couple of areas with lots of iron sand, very easy to see, that were hard to detect. Still managed some coins from them though, with the sensitivity down low. We've been using the Ace 150's since early January 2005 and I'm very pleased with them. Pic of some of the things found last year, mostly with the Ace's (I also use a Sea Hunter). Coins get converted into bullion, so far 2 x 20g gold (in the pic), 1kg silver bar, two 1/10 ounce coins (in the pic). Going to buy another 1kg of silver next month. So Warren Buffett watch out. :lol:

Suggest you get one Ace 250 and give it a try over the sand around you. If you like it get another one so both you and your wife can detect together. And the extra coils could be useful too. We hunt using standard coils but there are some areas where I reckon the sniper coil would REALLY shine, and also the bigger coil. Must get them ourselves.

Even if they don't work out on the beach (which I think is a pretty slim chance), we will still have a blast with them hunting other areas.
