does the stock coil on the 70 have a cover?

Yep, it has a cover and it comes off fairly easy, I just took mine off today and cleaned it and put it back on. If you run your finger around the edge and gently pry as you go, working it gradually off like you would with a tight lid on a margarine container, it will come off.

Well, the stock coil I have came with a cover and the 10.5" I bought had a cover on it as well. The 6" coil doesn't have a coil cover and other people have used tape as a form of scuff cover. Like you I haven't seen any covers sold seperately, but you might want to contact Kellyco to see if they have any as they carry a lot of Minelab stuff.

My 6" 7.5KHz has a cover , I think. What appears to be a cover seems to have been factory sealed with some sort of silicone. Or is that not a cover???

I have been thinking about doing the same, just to keep the dirt out.

A product available in Canada is called "Draft Stop". It is sold in a chalking tube and peals off fairly easily when dry.

I have taped on my 5x10" elliptical skid cover with black electric tape.

Yes, take it off and make sure there is not any debris in there and reinstall. When I go to the beach, sand really likes to accumulate behind the cover on my stock X70 coil.

Yeah, seems to me that its probably designed to be taken off and cleaned out. I think gluing it on wouldn't be the best thing to do. Judicious taping around the edge to keep dirt out might work though.

I just went and looked at my 6" DD HF coil and that's not a cover, that's an integral part of the coil. I'm pretty sure its sealed so the coil will be waterproof. I've looked at the literature and a coil cover is not included for the 6" coils.

The 6'' Xterra coils, 18.75k and the 7.5k do not come with a coil cover and they do not sell it separately either, I am not sure why. Every other Minelab coil comes with a free coil cover already installed on it.

I pop mine of when ever I clean my machine. Seems like when ever am in the sand it seems to find a way in. I use just a damp paper towel.
