That the 305,505 and 705 are just slight progressons of the same machine just a little more bells and whistles. Just a thought.

Not at all strange to improve an already excellent product if you want to keep your existing customers and attract new ones. What Minelab did was listen to the Xterra user base and implement improvements that many had been asking for. Instead of questioning there motives they should be commended for improving an already quality product. If you look at Whites and Fisher (First Texas), they did the same with the MXT to MXT PRO and the Fisher F75 to the F75 LTD, I don't think that anyone thought that strange. Just MHO.

I respect your opinion. I have owned the 50 and the 705 and I have respect for each. But there is a limit to each. And that limit is what each can expected to do. I didn't see that much difference in what each one could ID. The difference in depth may be different, I didn't see it. A plus for the 50/505.

I believe it's marketing and trying to cater to your market. Some guys are willing to pay a little more for the extra gadget or the automatic functions. Some guys still want the functions but can save some money by setting things up manually. I think that's pretty smart of Minelab, and or any other manufacturer for that matter, to try to keep customers by trying to fill their wants/needs and also trying to save them money at the same time. JMHO

Agree with tjhoosier. Just a matter of money and which bells and whistles you want along with what you have or want to spend.

I bought the 705 for the Ground Tracking and the Prospecting. Yep bells and whistles, but bells and whistles which can make a difference in some circumstances.

Jeff

That's true. Maybe I should be thinking options instead of the words "bells and whistles".

Think "increased flexibility". That's what I paid for.

It's like buying a new car>A KIA WILL GO FROM POINT A TO POINT B BUT A BMW WILL GET YOU THERE IN STYLE AND YOU WILL BE NOTICED:clapping: :clapping:
I drive a Kia but use a MINELAB

Indeed!
