Good new vid:

Nice video and about all late model top end machines will do the same. Now if you raise the nail 3" above the coin and still get the same results I would be very impressed to say the least.I have spent way to much time doing very similar test with several machines and have yet to find one that will pass the nail above the coin part.I have seen people posting that they could but have yet to see any evidence.I am sure some are not discing the nail completely out and think they are passing the test.Notice I did not say it was not possible just that I have yet to see proof,Ray.

Swapping the coils, put the SEF on the older minelab, and see if you can get it from the front with the old machine. I suspect this may be a factor. Like Ray I've done lots of testing with this with different machines, but not the Etrac. Was going to do a video also. One thing that I have noticed and that is very evident in your video is that there is a hot spot in the center of the coil where you get a much better response. And I have noticed this is more pronounced with bigger coils. Which means you really need to overlap you swings massively.

Good work.

And I have been able to get a silver quarter 3" under a fairly small rusted nail placed as in the video if I run in 2 tone ferrous. However a silver dime 3" under the same nail is very iffy at best. However this is in the air and may very well differ in the ground.Just something for you all that are bored and or snowed in to speculate on or perhaps even test for yourselves,Ray.

HI DID THAT HAVE A VIDEO ON THAT JUST GO TO YOU TUBE TEST THEWALKER1847 YOU WILL GET YOUR WISH WORKS NICE. THE PRO COIL IS MUCH BETTER THAN THE STOCK COIL

Got your PM but am a YouTube Noob.

If I am understanding correctly the old unit did the same with the Pro coil? I bet the cleavage on the front and back of the coil makes the difference.

I also did some testing with auto/manual; turning on fluorescent lights and seeing what EMI does for depth in either mode. Very similar to what Bryce posted about the ETRAC earlier. Basically Auto really sets the sensitivity too low. I believe the older models have essentially the same software, but don't display what is actually happening.

Perhaps you or Ray or me could make up some jello pudding and insert nails at various heights and try again. I think Lemon/lime would be an excellent choice. My experience with the F-75 suggests that DD coils pretty much give the same results. Pretty sure this has to do with the laws of physics. Only difference is the 2D display on the explorer tells you something about what is in the ground. And again why they changed the Etrac display is beyond me. It was good to see from your video that iron/good target pushes the cursor somewhere else. On the older models iron/good combination would hit upper left most swings but sound was intriguing enough to stop and circle. Dug many a good coin when this happened.

I did some testing with different depths with coin/iron combo. I found that iron alone would bounce from extreme left to across the screen as shown in Mike Moutray posts from years ago. Coin/iron almost never hit extreme upper left; usually a tad 1/8-1/4 inch from the left. In the air. I've dug a ton of coins that hit here. Thought I was on to something. But in the ground it seems that iron can also hit a bit from the left. I have a pile of nails to show for this. Don't think there is an easy answer.

Chris

Nice demonstration thanks:thumbup:

Perfect example why a person should hunt an old area three and four times at different angles. I keep finding old coins from spots I have hunted many times. If I find an older spot with tons of modern trash, I know I will eventually find the good coins. R.L.

This guy got me into the e-trac.Do people agree with this re the pinpointing?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aa7HJuWrMg

I just got my Trac a week ago so I haven't tried this.
But if I were trying to pinpoint a Small gold ring next to a large rusty nail my explorer SE with pro coil would most likely lock on to the the nail?
Not locking onto iron in pinpoint must be a new feature on the Trac?
