Dominion Soda Water Works Edmonton 1917 Soda Bottle

Edmbottles

New member
This bottle came up from a construction site in Edmonton. I was very happy to add this toto the newspaper articles this company was only in business for nine months during 1917. Dominion soda water Works owned by Mahar Brothers were successors to the Edmonton Bottling works which had been in business since 1899. Considering the short lifespan of the company I’m thinking this is a very rare item. The corresponding seltzer bottle would probably be even more rare. The seltzer was purchased rather than found.

I wanted to follow up to my post, it appears some of the information that I have added is incorrect. The “M B“ trademark threw me off. The Dominion soda waterworks was open by Charles Margolis in April of 1912. Charles had learned the soft drink business from a friend in Toronto. His brothers Harry and Ben were also partners in the company. That being said the trademark is for Margolis brothers rather than Mahar Brothers. In 1916 Charles got out of the bottling business and his brother Harry became the sole proprietor That year the business was renamed dominion bottling works. This was new information that I found. Previous to finding this information I knew the dominion bottling Works had opened around 1917 and I had assumed they had taken the name from Mahar after the closure noted in the newspaper article above.

A few other dominion bottles in my collection the Saskatoon branch was opened in 1929. The diamond shaped labels are probably from around 1920
