Hi everyone, I
Got up Saturday morning at 6:30 and stayed up till 1:30 next morning Sunday, almost 20 hours being up. Drove down to the beach, about a 90 min. drive to do some detecting. The beach I went to had a soccer tournament over the weekend with a huge crowd. Got to the beach at around 3:00 AM and started detecting using my head lamp. The first hour was OK and than I struggled trying to see my targets with the head lamp. My legs started to ache and had a hard time balancing in the dark. I started to loose focus after about three hours and felt like one of those walking Zombies you see on TV. I pushed on for about 5 hours and now just totally exhausted. In my 50’s , would have had no problems, now in my 70’s which changes things somewhat. I met a couple guys who came to do some detecting and said there was a few folks that detected the beach when the crowds dispersed Sunday evening, go figure!
.
I bought a large cup of coffee, opened up all the windows in my truck, turned up the radio trying not to fall asleep and drove the 90 min. trip back home. Got home, unpacked everything, cleaned up, crawled back into bed and passed out.
My advice to those enthusiastic older folks who enjoy this hobby, make sure you get plenty of R&R before planning a trip to detect.
