Don't trust your memory -

steve in so la

Well-known member
Some years back I came across a short news story from about 1890. A highway man had been robbing stages in so Az and taking money plus a lot of gold jewelry. After some months he was tracked down at his house - location was given - along a highway.
He had been melting down the gold and making ingots to sell. They found a couple fire places where he had done this work and indicated he had stuff all over the place.
Well I thought - I'll remember that and go there some time to detect. I never could find the news article again.

So always write down your leads even if it seems useless to do so. You can always throw them away later. Steve in so az

Just kidding! I am starting to write down as much as possible! :)
If you remember, let me know and I will come down! :)

that is what I was thinking too! Maybe even some buried in the yard! :)

I've seen spots along highways that were very promising then forgot where they were. Made a determination to carry a pen and paper in the van so I could jot stuff down. The pen and notebook made it to the van - the pen 'got borrowed' and not returned. The notepad is no longer in the vehicle.

2 things one can try (besides the above pen and paper):

one of those pocket Palm handheld PDAs which contains a note pad in it

the other is a pocket tape recorder

Neither are any good if they don't go wth you (and less use if left in a hot vehicle)

Good reminder Steve to not trust our minds to remember - with so much input it is surprising we remember anything.

I keep my info in 3 ring binders. one for Michigan and another for Florida. Kind of fun putting them together. Keeps my mind on detecting in the winter
