Double Guit Button

I found this button in Poestenkill NY on 3-28-14
the back reads double gilt NO.5
I am afraid to clean it any further.
can anyone tell what it is or worth or the age?

Many manufacturers used those words from what I can tell. But, "Double Gilt" means it was dipped twice.
I would date it late 1700s-early 1800s.
Nice find buttons are always neat finds.

Thanks for the info
upon doing a little research I believe that the button is British,1820 circa
and the mark would have read "Orange double gilt"
There is a web page where the have nice pics and the buttons are like new
an for sale.Its called "The Buttonmonger" check it out ,they have the button listed for
$7.50 in new condition.I'M KEEPING IT!!!!
