Double Ton with Coiltek WOT

Terra1959

Member
G'day,

Just had a great hunt :)
At 44 celcius it was very hot here
I hunted with my XT70 + MF 15" WOT from 4 hours for $126.20
Took a break to cool down and refuel
Then did one more hour for $83.55 ...I found a honey hole that hour
Wish I could average that all the time ;)
At $209.75 it's not a record for me but my 2nd best hunt for modern coin

...Go the WOT

happy swinging

Thats a good haul for one day was there any silver and gold in the lot?
Here ware I live the ground is frozen pretty hard so no huntin for me thats a real bummer!
What part of Austrailia you in? I have a friend that lives in Mollymook S.east coast I think known her around ten years.

Are you sure that you had a detector and not a rake?
 That's quite a haul Terra!

It's -7

wow now that's making some money at MDing. I'm guessing that you do not have too many ppl in your area that MD.

Hi again,

I live in the central southern state of South Australia...I do know Mollymook and the more populated east coast though
Nearly all were sunbakers or surface coins $1 and $2 coins...not one plug was cut - I used only pliers and screwdriver
Others were one silver bangle, one silver ring, one junk ring, one fake gold earring
Gee the old body is hurting this morning from all the up and down :)

bring on a $5 coin :thumbup::biggrin:

That's a ripper hunt! You certainly did your homework before you headed out!
Feel like Michael Clarke yet!:poke:

i have just aquired the 15"wot for my xterra 705,i live in fnq so i won't upset your finds.what settings are you using?i seem to get multiple responces under the coil and it doesn't readily settle down on one target.i find it very frustrating.hoping you will help, blowfly

Hi Blowfly.
I have had the opportunity to borrow the 15 inch coil for a couple of hunts. It's quite a brute! Covers the ground real quick but also picks up a lot more targets at the same time due to it's size. A couple of things you might try. Hunt in all metal mode as the target separation improves vastly when in all metal. try and sneak in on a target if you can with the tip from a few different angles. dropping the sensitivity might help too. Apart from that, if the ground is to congested, then a smaller coil will be the way to go.
It's possible also that the ground may be too mineralised or that you might have to change your noise cancel channel. Just a couple of thoughts without knowing exactly what you've already done.

thanks mick, something i've noticed with this coil,if your shorter than six foot, you would cover more ground per sweep, but i'm six foot five and i have to be careful with my sweeps as i have walked onto the back of the coil if not paying enough attention and it becomes rather tiring holding the coil out away from the feet.the soil around here is quite mild.today i notched everything out that i didn't want to find and that helped .tomorrow i'll try all metal and knock off the sence a bit.thanks again, mick, bye for now, blowfly

Although I'm only 5'6, I found that if you swing that large coil at a certain speed, the momentum seems to take care of the weight. it's not that fast either so target masking shouldn't be much of a problem.I have found that the X-terra's perform quite badly when you notch out anything. I almost sold it after a hunt with a friend once. He was swinging a Sov and went over ground that I had gone over. He pinged several goldies that were just under the surface. I couldn't believe it as I know that I had put my coil directly over the coins. It got further rubbed in when I borrowed his Sov and started finding coins strait up. I was in mode 1. Now I only use all metal mode. It has made quite a difference to my detecting. The recovery speed is noticeably better.

Hi Blowfly,
Sorry for seeing your post late
I see my old friend Mick had already helped you out.( Gday Mick Happy 2013 mate , say Hi to Narromine for me will ya )

When I hunt for modern I disc out the very high and and very low and leave an open screen in between - but it really depends upon what u feel like digging for
You did not mention which 15"you got...LF, MF, HF , not that it it should matter too much
The main thing is to have a stable machine, Noise Cancel first and set it up so as its humming along nicely just under the falseing side of Sensitivity
I use Tracking On as it compensates for ground differences and re GB's the XTerra as I move around
One thing I have found sometimes when putting a new coil on my detectors is to give the new coil some time on the detector to get used to each other.
Coilteks coils are on the "hot"side (which is a good thing IMHO) and my old Xt70 initially liked some time to get to know the new coil, especially with the LF

If your problem is lack of separation and that is one that I have never had with a WOT .
Being a DD it should separate fairly well...I would test swing over 2 or 3 coins close together on the ground surface and see what occurs.
It should separate each coin when the coins are about 1 to 2 inches apart - depending upon how far away the coil is from the object
If your problem is that it is giving lots of signals close together that simply means there are lots of targets down there and you need to decide which ones to pinpoint and dig for...perhaps even think about using a smaller coil for this particular spot

Walking onto the coil ?? dang !! have you tried putting your shoes on backwards ? that should fix it  or maybe stretch your arms a bit ...sorry :)
I adjust the shaft so the WOT is right away from my feet and put in my little counterweight under my elbow for better detector balance (see previous post re this)
I am just on 6 foot and I guess I use my shoulder more than my arms when swinging big coils and keep my arm fairly straight, rotating the shoulder .
Best of luck

thank you,T59,i will keep those points in mind.i guess i won't be detecting at the moment,as it's raining and everyone is keeping a close watch on the gulf to see if anything developes.we haven't had a blow yet,so you never know, bye for now, blowfly
