Doubting myself

I have purchased a minelab 505 from Kellyco that is to be delievered next thursday. For days I have been reading this and other forums and now wonder if I should have purchased the 707 instead. I am retired and spend the summers on the coast of Washington state. Lots of ocean beach to cover. I spend the winters in Arizona. Lots of mines and desert to cover. I have a neighbor here in Arizona that has 2 md's and he loaned me one and took me to a local park. We found some coins but nothing to talk about. But I think I'm hooked. I believe I can call Kellyco and tell this story and they will let me refuse the fedex shipment and order the 707 instead. Being a total newbe, a little input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just return the 505 for the 705.

The 705 isn't my first or only detector, so it's tough to know what it would be like to jump in with it. I suppose it's easy enough to learn, and has a number of automatic features, so maybe it wouldn't be that bad.

Of course, another option would be to get your wife hooked too. Then you could hand off the 505, and get yourself a 705. You'd even have the ability to share coils.

If you decide to go with the xterra 705 they have the standard and the gold editions both at the same price..... get the gold with the DD Ellipical coil as that's what i should have done out here in arizona (i got the standard now bought the DD Coil) and most use that same DD coil for general detecting too. just don't get it wet as it is not waterproof.

Some features on the 705 that I wish I had are the auto GB and Tracking. Would also prefer a dectector that has a backlight for use in low light situations. If I had it to do over, would spend the extra $'s on the 705.

Welcome to the X-TERRA forum. In addition to the things some of the others have mentioned..... the 705 offers Auto NC, a Beach Mode for those Washington State beaches, "narrower" notch segment for more accurate TID in the Coin / Treasure modes, a wider range of adjustments for the ability to tune your detector more precisely for any given site, and the Prospecting mode for your dessert nugget hunting. Both are fully capable detectors. But the 705 offers more than simply a faster processor and higher price tag. JMHO HH Randy

Digger---- Thanks for your input. It was your book that really got me thinking. I down loaded it and must have read it at least 4 times allready. It really was a big help. Now all I have do is wait for tuesday to order my 705....

I believe kellyco has a 30 day return. You can do the keep the 505 and then give to the wife if she is interested or just go with the 705 like i wished I had. The 505 has been great for this newbie but the 705 has a few features I wish I had.

Xterra's are great started with the 305 now on the 705 and loving it for high conductive targets i.e silver coins .

the one good thing is they hold their value when selling 2nd hand so which ever way you go have fun and good luck but you wont need it with the xterra

Thanks to all of you for the reply's. Kelleyco was great. Daniel said to just refuse delivery of the 505 when it comes and all I will have pay is the delievery charges. That seems fair as It was my mistake to order the 505 and then change my mind. The 707 will ship tomorrow. Your inputs really helped.

Old Longhair-----Two things stopped me from doing that.

1-She didn't want it
2- I'm to cheap

The 705 is a great machine but be prepared for a 15-20% restocking fee from Kellyco!!!
