beautiful day for travelling. I had read of a couple job openings at the camp at the base PX...one I thought would be cool...roach coach driver (LOL - the meals on wheels vendor taking food to the troops). Had to stop for Security at the gate and found out I have to apply on line for the positions I was going to put in for there. Sherry was nervous having never been on an installation. The Security Officer at the gate told me about the on line hiring process. Told him I'd just swing around and depart the base, he said ok...then he met me on the outbound side of the guard shack. Stopped me and asked if I had any security experience. I said about 10 years combined security with 3 different companies and several years of Law Enforcement in the military. He asked if I could come back before 3 pm sometime when the boss is there. He said he will be looking for part time help soon when the base gets active and said I should come talk with the boss. Sounds good to me. I asked what kind of pay are we looking at....driving from Houghton Lake to Grayling several days a week on a part time basis one wants to make sure there is enough for bills and gas for the van too. He said around $11 an hour...wow, that is over $2 more than the roach coach position
The Security Officer was an old guy like me so I know they hire old guys hahaha. Sherry said let's come back tomorrow so will see how that all pans out. It will only be a seasonal job....during the duration the camp is open for their spring-summer training on into the fall. Will have to see how it all shakes out.
