Dual Field VS Surf PI

Hello all,

I want to get a PI machine For the beach, Wet sand to about chest deep. What is the difference between the Surf PI and the new Dual Field? They look the same, except for the coils. I currently use a DFX, but don't want to chance an accident!
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

You can also alter the pulse on the dual field, it has 3 controles rather than just 2,

Kered, I have a dual field, but I don't find any advantage to slowing the pulse. It loses depth, but still picks up hairpins, If you tune out the hairpins the depth is REALLY reduced. Can you get any advantage from the pulse adjustment?

I have not used it much,(other than in tests) but according to Clive can be useful in some areas to smooth out the threshold if used very sparingly(not really needed here)read the book for more info
in my tests foil,gold and ring pulls went first before the iron so i deducted that if i off tune it and the signal stayed the same it was iron and not gold,(don't quote me i may be wrong)
I basically use the double blip and grittey sound to identify the hairpins/nails but am fooled now and again(aren't we all)

my setting that work well for me
Delay=preset
threshold just barely audible(well below the preset)
Gain = between 9 and 11 o'clock(also well below the preset)

Having the gain real low would lead one to imagine that a load of depth is lost, this is very untrue, what it does is smooths out the threshold perfectly, that together with the very low threshold lets you hear any slight change and the quietest of targets.(chains for example)
I have repeatedly found deep targets and played around with the settings to try to tune in for best signal before digging, quite often using all preset marks i cannot detect or make out the target from the chatter, had i passed by on these settings i surely wouldn't have noticed them.
Give it a try then trash them if it don't work(all beach mineralization is not the same) but i think you will be surprised

Good tip, I am still new to mine also, I have been running the gain well past the preset, and still is smooth. I might take a few minutes and see what some tuning will do on different targets.

Mine is set well below(less) not above, i tried it up high and got a real ear bashing and lost most targets
