Just a thought, to me it looks like an old forged rope hitch, I'd guess for logging or agricultural lifting. Usually the supports for hanging a pot over a fire were "S" of "C" hooks and less substantial.

I agree . Looks more like something for logging, pulled by yoked oxen. Cool find. Did you find any pork chops (oxen shoes) ? Cool iron !! HH
