Dug bottles collection

steve in so la

Well-known member
Greg asked for a pic of my cabinet with the bottles that Nancy & I have dug so here it is. It sure does take a lot of dirty work to dig them out but very much worth it when they clean up. Almost all came from the desert southwest in my area, including the old Tombstone, Az dump. Since this pic we have thinned out the display as it was gettiong too full for a pleasing display.

Nice cabinet too! :)

Tombstone ya say...2 questions - (1) any fired bullets and (2) do they sell Tombstone Pizzas...man they are great pizzas. COngrats on those bottle finds to both you and Nancy.

and old milk bottles. Because of lack of room space...i finally boxed most of them up. Someday I will get a nice display built for them when I find the room.

Occasionally I'll find an old bottle searching an old house site but a buddy of mine hit pay dirt one day. In downtown, construction was begun to build a new building and Knoxville's first dump was uncovered. He and several other people were over there every night digging and recovering all kinds of old bottles. He found a small blue poison bottle and a guy offered him $50 on the spot but he declined the offer and later sold it for $400. He found out later it was worth $1000 !!! He found several ink bottles, gave me 2 of them, and several pre 1915 brown Coke bottles of which he gave me one. I have them on display in a hanging display shelf I built.

I went over one evening to watch them dig and they looked like miners, some actual caves dug into the side that went back 8 feet or so. Every so often you would see a bottle flung up from the hole onto the top of the dirt piled around the holes. I imagine some of those guys came out with thousands of dollars worth of old bottles.
