Dug me a HUGE silver

amc rulz

New member
This morning I hunted a small old picnic area, dug a few clad and could tell that dirt may have been pushed around here years back. Lots of low conducting signals in the ground. I dug an odd signal that may have been nestled between some iron. Thought at first I had found another Kennedy clad....coin came out much bigger!
Could make out the eagle on the back, very dark coin. Took it home, soaked it in a baking soda slurry for awhile. Now I have some silver underneath, with an 0 mint mark. I'm sure this one was burnt, church on site burned in 1900.
Got a few wheaties, and a '29 Canadian cent too. amc

Silver dollars are always a great coin to pull out of the ground . . . . . great find - hope you find more from the age of the old church!

Yaaa baby those morgans rule. You dont see too many of those come out of the ground anymore. Great bunch of silver.

Only a very small percentage of metal detector owners find a silver dollar, so you are now one of the few. Congrats to you. An exciting day!

Great find AMC Congrats!!!! I'm still looking for my first one.

Thanks everyone, I feel i'm lucky to have found that one, this old spot has been hit quite a bit over the years according to the caretaker. If the coin had not been scorched I would not have had to try and restore it as i did. Under a loupe theres lots of tiny pitting, but still excellent detail. I ended up using a little spit and piece of aluminum foil. Here is the final result.

Soak it in Brasso...
