E Trac coin mode question

D&P-OR

Well-known member
WHY IN THE WORLD did Minelab put those top right disc bars in the E Trac coin mode??--The only reason I can think of is an attempt of a block for the "wrap around" effect of iron.--I can't even begin to get a decent solid hit on a half or dollar with them in that program.---You can get rid of them--but why did Minelab put them in there in the first place???--All it does is mess up the full coin program (as I see it).---Am I missing something here with my line of thought?---------Del

Hi, I don't believe that a silver dollar will read that high from what I have heard of a half dollar. I will have mine on Friday and of course it is going to DOWNPOUR on Saturday (my detecting day). So when I can I will post my results. It was probably designed for the wrap around effect. It seems that Minelab has taken the best of what the DFX's characteristics are: faster sweep, better pinpoint, user programs, linear number scale,etc... and combined it with the raw power of the SE and EXII. This will be an awesome machine. Give it time. I have read the manual every chance I get on line, and I think it looks extremely different than previous models, but I think it was a necessary step to advance the machine's capabilities. It will not be nice for some people, but for others like me, who are not used to the EXII or SE, it will be pulling lots of DEEP silver, in a preset program mode. I can only imagine what it will do once we get a chance to customise some of the advanced features! I will post some numbers as soon as the weather permits! I am chomping at the bit to try this machine!!!

coinnut-----Test away my friend!---You're not going to like those disc bars on the top right (if you use Minelabs pre-set coin mode).--And yes it DOES EFFECT the dollar readings!!---How can you make a statement like that when you haven't even tested it yet????--I have and so has digitrich among several others.---------Del

Wow you are really brutal to people posting if they don't agree with you! I thought this was an open forum for discussion??? My statement was based on the little information available. Pg 20 of the manual shows a coin program pattern. I'm assuming you are concerned with the blackened out section on the Ferrous @ 1-2 line and the Conduct @40 -50? If so, based on most coins on THIS machine, they are reading around the 8 -12 ferrous line, from what little has been posted. They would never fall into that blackened out range no matter what the conduct reading would be. The silver dollar would have to read fe 1 or 2 conduct 40 - 50? Is that what your test showed a silver dollar reading?? That's how I do my research. All I hear around this site is how it's not WHAT I WANT, like you are all masters of a new machine? Good luck to you all, I won't be posting here.I'll keep my opinions to my self and anything else I learn. I like friendly people, not whiners!! I have yet to see someone who is doing all the bitchin' to post an accurate graph. The only ones I see posting are people who are trying to understand the machine, not the ones trying to destroy it! Good luck to you.

He and I are holding the machine and you are reading a manual was his point, I don't think he meant to be abrasive. Most coins hit 12 ferrous, at this moment, I like the fact that the really large silver is hitting in it's own unique place, up in that disced out hot rock line, but then again, I at this moment are not swinging in hot rocks looking for large silver either. I am really hoping that's not where coal slag falses to, but if it does, that maybe a good thing as you could then get a clean signal on all the other coins at 12, in that same coal slag. Think of the possibilities of that one for a second.:yikes:

MY goodness---SOMEBODY is REALLY touchy!---Didn't realize that I was brutal or that those of us on this forum are a bunch of "unfriendly, bitchin whiners".---I always thought we are kind of a neat varied bunch of people that's really interested in this great hobby.---This is PRECISELY why I don't get involved in any IN DEPTH discussions--seems like I always say something that causes somebody "hard feelings".--I stand on my convictions and the "proof" of my own tests though and that's all that really counts--everybody should do their own tests and go with what works for them.--But what do I know about anything??--I just bought my first detector in the mid '70's---and I've only owned & operated the XS--EX 2--SE--and now the E Trac.---Keep your good posts coming guys--I'm enjoying them--"eatin 'em up" (and learning from them)!!!-----Take care my friends, Del

Don't recall saying all? Just some people. Already got PM'd by some of the nicer people that don't post much for the same reason's I talked about. Just tired of SOME people trying to turn the E TRAC into an Explorer or SE. If the Guvner wants to know why posts are down, all he has to do is look at is how SOME people talk to others on this site. It seems that opinions from SOME people only count if they come from hardened Minelab users. I have also been detecting since 1972. I learn from everyone, and try not to tell anyone their methods are wrong. I guess the guy that posted only 10 times since he joined and is a White's user doesn't have any smarts either? Seems he was basically told to go to another forum. It seems a bit arrogant that you seem to think you know this machine so well for only having it a few days. Maybe Minelab engineers are all stupid too? No one disputes your claims, but after hearing the 12 number tossed around so much and not reading anyone post the dollar FE/CON numbers, I couldn't see how it was masked. Good luck to you DEL, I'm glad you got this machine all figured out.

Come On Guys: I read every post I can find about the new machine, I'm sure many people do, I do not know which post is fact or opinion but I am happy to read them all, This forum has always been a place for the less experianced person to get information about the hobby, I have used about every machine that minelab makes and I hope my E- Trac gets here tomorrow so I can start learning about it. My point is that all of us have the option to read what post we choose to read and ignore the rest, We should not argue that right, We are not all going to reach the same conclusions about the new machine but I hope fervently that we are all going to keep enjoying the hobby and for me KEEP THE INFO COMING

We must remember also that we are posting online and we are not able see their inflections and body language. We go by raw wording alone and we can assume someone is ticked off when in reality all he is doing is stating a fact that he holds dear to himself.

I did and THANK YOU for the great info.I got my Etrac in the mail this morning and will try it out this afternoonRay.
