e-trac menu buttons - easy to push?

I just ordered an e-trac from Kellyco. This is my first Minelab (I've always been with White's) and I was just curious how easy the menu buttons on the e-trac are to push. Will wearing leather gloves be an issue? Are the buttons fairly abrasion resistant?

The buttons are very easy to push but are a bit on the small side with leather gloves making it a hassle. I wear a glove on my digging hand and not on my swinging hand and I find that this works well. I put a protective film on my Etrac(the name of which is banned here) and it is abrasion/scratch proof. I would not use mine without some sort of protection, but that is just me!!

I would recommend protection of some kind for the screen. A good clear screen overlay has been discussed a great deal on this or the Explorer forum. There is another type of glove that may allow more feel for the buttons and has worked very well for me. It's those mechanic type gloves, available in car parts stores. They may seem a little pricey, but fit very well (meaning the glove fingers fit your fingers, instead of some of them being way too long), they still allow you to have some "feel" with your fingers, while still giving good proection from broken glass and sharp metal. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Do you think a fresh saran wrap layer before each hunt would work OK?

If I wanted to use it and didnt have a cover, then it would work, who knows, might be a great solution, I couldnt tell you for sure as I have never tried it. I, personally, would get a cover ordered asap, and not the minelab cover as it has way to much glare to be happy. I settled with the permanent cover and really like it for its protection and glare help. I paid around 30 bucks I think but you can get the screen only cover for around 21 or so.

Saran wrap may reduce your ability to read the display of the machine, by too much reflection. I've used store bought screen protectors made for PDAs ("palm pilot") you have to trim them to fit, but will protect from scratching the display. I don't think they work as well as the screen protector made especially for etrac and explorers. That item has been discussed on this site and isn't a sponser, so it's name gets *^^%( out. You can look back at prior posts and maybe find out how to get to thier website. Or send me a PM if needed.

thanks, I got the "bleep this name out because it's top secret" cover. The one that starts with a Z, and is followed by an a, g, and g.

I also used discount code 'techound1' to get 20% off, since $30 ain't cheap for a thin layer of adhesive plastic!
