E-trac question and help

I'm new to the e-Trac---with a couple of months under my belt with it---Not new to metal detecting----1st e-trac was sent back within a week (run fine for 15 minutes then start going crazy) Plus E-trac would not pick up my 14K 4 G wedding band laying in grass..2nd e-trac sent to replace 1st---After about 6 weeks and a few hours every day with 2nd E-trac I'm having same problems:---Only 2nd e-trac would pick up wedding band in grass part of time then start discriminating ring out( pick of ring on one pass next pass a few minute later not pick ring up)----Called "Minelab Customer care" not much help--all they said was to send unit back and service center would check it out-

ANY OF YOU EXPERIENCED E-TRAC FOLKS GIVE ME ANY HELP OR IDEAS ON WHAT DO DO

All I can tell you is ive been useing the etrac for over a year now and have found 0 gold items, I know some users have found gold.But my silver coin finds went up 3 to 4 times since useing the etrac and thats what I hunt for anyway. When going for gold I take my mxt,it loves gold.

I also have a MXT----Before that a Eagle SL plus a Coinmaster----I was hoping Minelab support could be more helpful-- besides sent it back-----I was hoping it was something I was doing wrong and not the machine----I like the machine but this problem bugs me---Thanks for you input

Before I sent it all the way back I would try a few things. Different location for the tests. Fresh batteries installed or charged. Make sure your connection is tight on the coil. Factory reset. Start in one o the preloaded programs. Please keep us posted. Good luck.

this may be redundant but be sure of the following:

you are not in TTF
your lawn is free of junk stuff and that you have a clean area to start with
adjust sensitivity to be at the suggested level.

use the factory set up for the discrimination

When looking for the ring open your discrimination screen up to quick mask ( or quick UN mask) toggle between screens so you can see where it comes in at.
thin gold rings have a hard time on the E trac.

what happens in an air test outside? is the machine erratic in the air? I had a EXII that the wind would make sound like a musical instrument but when on the ground worked fine.

Last but not least...try to find someone in your area who can use it and see.

Take your etrac, go into quickmask totally open screen. Find some clean ground. Drop a clad dime. Run your sensivity to 30 manual. You should be able to hear a good high tone up to at least 11 inches if not 12 while sweeping.

Good post. Your prolly descrimiating out the ring to a degree. Open it up.
