E-Trac strikes First Silver:clapping:

Hi all. Well after going on 4 months reading this forum, reading Andy's book, sitting in the house and waving coins over the coil, going through all the functions, and programming in patterns I finally got out. The ground has thawed out down to about 8 inches. I went to an old spot down by the river that served as a gathering spot many years ago. It is still kept mowed and there are some outhouses there. I found my 1910 wheat there last fall. Powered up the E-Trac and hunted about an hour. This spot is super trashy and not a good spot to learn at, but it is very secluded and close to where I live. Some places the detector would null out the entire swing. I would slow down until the threshold would return then move 1/2 inch and it would null out again. I switched between Andy's coin pattern and the stock coin program. I didn't venture into the quick mask much. I know this place has been hunted some, but I really don't know how much. I also dug a few beer cans about 6" down.

So how'd I do? I first dug up 2 nails about 7" down. They sounded good, but I did notice they read 27-47. I just meandered around, no set path, and hunted. I mean this is only my 2nd hour on the machine outside of the yard. I dug a zinc penny then about 5" down I got a solid hit, under the branches of an old cedar tree. Really sounded good and pegged right on the dime reading. I "rescued" a 1917 Merc, no mint mark. :hot: I was tickled pink to say the least, had to go use one of the outhouses. Found 1 more clad dime then had to call it quits as the 8 month old I was babysitting (yeah, my own) started telling me he had enough of me detecting.

I plan on hitting it there again tomorrow, so we'll see. I just want to thank all you guys for your insight and great advice!!!!

I was running fast on and deep on.

My question I have for you guys is:

SINCE I FOUND THE MERCURY DIME AT 5" UNDER A TREE, BUT FOUND THE BEER CANS ABOUT 6" DOWN, SHOULD I CONTINUE TO RUN DEEP ON? I probably will try both. My gain is set at 26, Multi Tones and Conductive.

Thanks in advance.

What was your auto sens set it? If trashy i set it to high trash, fast on deep off, ground difficult if the auto sens is 22 or lower. In that null i would switch over to q mask and work slow. There is no other detector that can work in and around the iron like the ET imo. Anything that gives you a wiff around that 12 line dig it. It took me upwards of 30 hours detecting time before it all clicked for me. Now i call it the EZTrac because i can set it up and go to town. I do find myself utilizing more of the features on the fly now. Its like second nature to me. Congrats on your Merc!!!:clapping: There is more where that came from.

EZ

P.S one thing i like for coin hunting is the 4 tones. I do play with Multi somtimes but my ears like the 4.

Thanks EZ! I'm sorry I neglected to say that I was running auto sens. +3. With this setting it ran around 24 when I started. In the heavy iron I glanced down and it had dropped to 19. I had it set on High trash also and ground difficult. Thanks for the quick mask suggestion.
