E-Trac the nickel machine.

I have seen a number of posts about how good the E-Trac is on nickels; so did a little math from the last 4 years. In 2008 through 2010 I hunted with my 25 year old Garrett and the percent of my finds that were nickels was 6.17%. This year with my new E-Trac the percentage is 13.81%. The E-Trac sees every nickel it passes over. Every nickel from 3 inches or less had numbers of a solid 12-13; 3 to 5 inches FE 11 to 13, CO 13 to 14. Deeper nickels were real jumpy, FE from 7 to 14 and CO 10 to 17 if I could get the CO number to hit at least once on 13 I would dig that deep signal.

I agree. Before I had the etrac I didn't think there was any lost nickels. I don't miss a one now. Picked up a 1921 buff this last weekend.

Over here in Great Falls, Mt.

I was in Great Falls a month ago, spent 3 hours in Gibson Park got a 1933D wheat and a 1943P war nickel + 31 clad and a small ring.

One of the few parks over here that have sprinkler systems that keep the grass soft enough to dig in. Lots of stuff has been taken out of Gibson over the years. What depth are you finding the good coins at. I find that 3-5" is about it for the old stuff.

The war nickel was at 3 inches and the wheat at 4 1/2. Both were found along an access track near the RR tracks northwest of the pond.

On the way to work this morning a fellow detectorist was working one of the parks so I pulled over and we had a good chat. He was from Chicago out here visiting and working the beeper. Etrac. He already had 5 merc dimes, a Indian head and a bunch of other coins. I have lived here 26 years and have met 3 folks in the last week in parks. Good to see some action. Makes me want to charge up the batteries on the etrac and head out. ;) I'm sure this weekend I will be out there.

iv used a lot of detectors in 25 years and the etrac is awesome on nickels. the only other machine nearly as good on nickels was the fisher id excel. i have to be honest i still havent beat my nickel record i set with the id excel. i dug 41 nickels in one day with that detector. granted all i was hunting for that day was nickels but still a lot of nickel. maybe i should try going and hunting just for nickels one day with the etrac.
