e-trac threshold linearity question?

I'm using a threshold value of 15 which is still a bit too loud (in a quiet area). but if I drop to 14 the sound drops too much (essentially silent) which forces me to be stuck at 15. Seems like the sound intensity gap between 15 and 14 is too large, ie non-linear.
can someone else check to see if they're seeing the same behaviour? I really would like to drop it to my hearing threshold as a lot of folks suggest but it's looking like 15 is it.

I can hear mine at 12... I also dropped it to the lowest toned audio setting though.. I like a low pitch threshold.. maybe you can mess with the threshold tone and get it more to your liking
 
There is 2D chart in manual which shows linear increase for sound intensity in relation to threshold value. Base on my experience sound volume is not linear unless special way of amplifying is used: 40dB is not half as loud as 80dB. I have to try regenerate your problem. Will let you know.
 
My hearing is somewhat damaged on some high frequency scales from years of abuse (mechanic work). Lowering the threshold tone allows me to hear it at a very faint whisper ... where I feel the detector performs best with wide open sounds variability.
Not many detectors offer this to the user and none do it as well as Minelab IMO.

That's another way of fine tuning how much volume hits your ears. If you have a hearing loss, maybe some of the 'better' headphones talked about on the forum are exactly the solution you might seek...Jim
 
so that's what I've been using, like all the way up. I'll try the low pitch tomorrow to see if that helps. I still think something is
a little off with this as it should just work at whatever pitch setting one uses.
 
always ran lowest tone threshold to hear the faint high tones.. if the threshold is same tone as the signal you might not notice a deep one
