E-Trac:unsure:Explorer SE?

I am trying to figure out the difference between the E-Trac and the Explorer SE. Other than some differences in the controls, and the E-Trac having the USB connection, most of the features on both machine seen similar. What are the advantages of each. I would appreciate any information.

They are both very good machines BUT you get what you pay for! After getting the etrac...I would never go back to the SE. For me, its smoother and quieter...plus I like alot of the updates.

I agree completely. You get what you pay for. I have owned every Explorer model except the II and the Etrac is a better machine hands down. If the money is an issue the SE Pro is a very fine unit Too. Good Luck

I am a new Etrac owner and this is my first Minelab. I have not used Explorers so I can't relate. My uderstanding is primary design change in moving the FECO display 90 degress and to read FE top to bottom 1-35 and CO left to right 1-50. Minelab found most coins fall along a 12 ferrous line and thought it resulted in a better ID system. The Explorer SE and Etrac are both FBS models. Maybe the Etrac is a different processor?

Here is a comparison link at Minelab.

Someone might know more tech stuff but as I understand it, the processor...is different! Minelab didn't want to make an explorer III so they total changed things to make the Etrac. Naturally, some of the features are the same or similar but the etrac is supposed to be a new "animal". I think its soooo much better in several ways! Arguably the best there is!

I had the SE for a short time and did in fact find my largest silver with it (1907 Barber half)
However, I never felt it was comfortable to use and when I got the Etrac it was like coming home:bouncy:

Minelab is pretty protective of their technology. What we do know is the E-Trac does have a faster more powerful processor which would make more complex programs/filters faster on the ET than the SE. It also has an expanded CO(conductive) range that I think does a better job of identifying targets. The ET has a bit better ergonomics. I think they changed the angle of the handle to make it more balanced. I know the SE would make me sore after an hour or two but I can run the ET all day.

For me the big difference is stability. The ET is much more stable than the SE which I believe gives me better depth. You can't hear those faint deep signals if your detector is making random noises at the same time.

For me it is alot of the same things that are mentioned above with the two biggest being Balance is better and more stable than SE most say. I have a Cabela's card and saved $550 on my machine so cost was not a huge factor.

if explorer used without discrimination is very similar or the same like etrac, but if you dont like to hear all iron in low tones and want use discrimination , etrac is the best. what I saw inside in my etrac is still old explorer with some improvements.

Have used the se pro since may 09. It seems to be a silver magnet compared to the whites xlt I had used for about 12 years. My etrac should arrive next week, will have to wait and see how it compares. The book by andy sabisch explains the difference between the two machines.
Have only had a very short use of an etrac twice, the thing that jumped out at me was the stability of the etrac compared to the se pro.

Etrac has better discrimination faster response and faster recovery speed
better handling the automatic mode
better depth reading
more stable specially in high mineralized soil ,
the ability to choose soil type :difficult for high mineral or normal for low

if the detector was on difficult soil type mode it may lose high conductive big ( mean really big ) copper or silver mode ( even in all metal mode ) but explorer not

in the pinpoint mode Etrac can discriminate and show the FE-CO number help to pinpoint close targets in high trash area
Etrac has very very accurate pinpoint than explorer

for me Etrac was like XLT the detector has well wight balanced and ideal for long time detecting better than explorer

and for me in high trashy area i accepted the FE (11-13) and co above the 3 a narrow wide discrimination with effective range of coins
i found it after testing many coins and i found the explorer results are not in a straghit line
