I often had hunts like that when I was down in Sydney. I hit lawns after a few days like that and had a better strike rate. You did well on the 20's. It looks like the small goldies were being aloof today on you.

I did some reading before posting this. I was curious just how big Dubbo is because you find a lot of coins and also many other interesting bits. I think the area you live in is roughly the same population as where I live in NY. You are farther away from Sydney than I am from NYC but I would never consider goin there to detect anyway. Do you ever go to Sydney to detect?

Please return the US coins to me and I will forward them to the Mint. I'll return post my one and only Australian coin find.

Chris

Nice day lazy I also like the car.

You done good bud. That 35 cents sounds like my luck many days. Today was one of them. Found a Swiss Army knife, a badge of some kind, and about 15 cents from two playgrounds. Really a frustrating day. It's days like this that make me want to take up bowling or somethingfor a hobby. :)

Mick if i find an area with not much loot i just move on to a better spot & i usually don"t do to well in the grass looking for $1 - $2 coins i"m going to hit a few more grassy parks soon so hopefully my luck will change :detecting:.
Chris i"m in Melbourne never been to dubbo or Sydney Mick might have to answer that question :) look Melbourne up on goggle earth & try to count the tot lots you"ll be there all night :heh: & i might swoop the Penny's if the coin is a $2

Hi Chris.
Dubbo is 400kms (250 miles) north west of Sydney.
It has a population of 39 000. The closest town to Dubbo with a population of over 10 000 is Orange, which has a population of 36 000. It is a 100 miles south east of here on the road to Sydney.) Melbourne is 980kms south of Dubbo. Brisbane is just over a 1000kms to the north. We are the main though-fare for trucks driving between these to cities.
Over the last few Christmases, I've had the opportunity to hunt in Sydney and always do very nicely. I used to live there, but moved out 19 years ago. From a detecting standpoint, I'd love to move back there:detecting: as my annual finds would easily be in the $1 000's each year.Probably $3 000 to $4 000, but it's typically around $700 each year. I usually only get to Sydney once a year in which I have the time to hunt. Sometimes I've got to take a short trip there and there are times in which I might not get there for several years at a time.
How far out of New York City do you live?
Mick Evans.

NYC is a bit over 100 miles away. I read a book about a guy who hunts there and finds a lot of old stuff. I always wonder why NYC allows detecting in some parks but not Central Park, which is gigantic. I bet there are millons of coins and jewelry finds there. I am not all that fond of running into too many spectators while detecting so city hunting would not be all that pleasurable to me.

It seems to be the same in The Domain and Hyde park in Sydney. both are in the CBD, but from what I understand, the chief gardiner hates detectorists. Ironically, my grand father was the chef gardiner of the Domain either in the sixties or fifties. All parks in Oz are fair game unless their is a sign there saying otherwise.
It sure must be cold in your part of the world, but you sure have a huge amount of history and population within a few hours driving of there.
Mick Evans.
