Earring will not alert Garrett pinpointer.

I have been asked to find a diamond stud earring. I asked the owner for the twin of the one lost. My pinpointer will not alert on it at all. Has anyone ever had this problem with any type of metal? My pinpointer is working properly on everything except this earring. I am very confused by this, any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

By the way, my detector will not pick it up either.

Few things
1. Use a higher frequency detectors that will pick up gold better than lower frequency detectors. That is why the ATGold runs at 18KHz and the ATPro runs at 15KHz. (If in deed the stud is gold)
2. Proper set up i.e. ground balance, no or minimal discrimination, sweep speed other settings correct?
3. Without knowing target metal type, detector and pinpoint models...it is hard to give any specific information.
4. Can you detect other stud earrings of the same size?
5. Don't expect to get good reading at great depths. Assuming the loss is recent, so depth should not be a problem.
6. Environmental conditions.

Close the ear ring to form a perfect '0' and see it that will create better eddy current and it gets a better signal?
