Things went from bad to worse in the north, especially when it came to the question of worship under the reign of Ahab and Jezebel. It is against this background (1 Kings 17-19) that we come to the famous story of the confrontation between Elijah and the prophets of Baal. It is here where we can see just how far compromise had taken them.
Read 1 Kings 18. Notice the difference in 'worship styles' between Elijah and these false prophets. What lessons might we take away that could be relevant for ourselves today and the whole question of worship?
