elliptical vs. concentric coils

I'm looking at adding a larger coil to my
Tesoro PIranha PI. Have a choice between
the 5" x 10" elliptical or 10.5" round
concentric. What are the advantages,
disadvantages, and best uses for each coil?
 
Tesoro had 3 coils at one time for the PIranha 7",8", and 10". Or something like that. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)"> The middle one was standard, with one larger, and one smaller. All were round. Unless Tesoro just made coils for a discontinued detector, I think you have them mixed up with their VLF coils. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
As I recall the larger coil did poorly on the PIranha for gold items. It's been a while since I had one, and it's getting harder, and harder to pull it out of memory. Hmmm, days getting shorter also. It must be something with being past 50 <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
