EMI problems:

Does anyone have any special tricks for getting their Safari/Quattro to handle EMI issues better, other than just noise cancelling more often and cutting back on the sensitivity?

A smaller coil should help.

Hey Mtnmn I just got my 6 inch EXcelerator EQ2 Pro DD Search Coil and I was able to turn the sensitivity up to 20 on my Quattro while testing out the coil where the power lines run over my yard. I could never do that with my 10 1/2 inch coil. I had to always turn is down the sensitivity to 12 or 13.with the bigger coil before it stopped chattering. I have another place I am going to test the new coil that EMI is even worst where I had to turn down the sensitivity down to 8 or 9.

Also check your area for low overhead powerlines. Maybe potential underground sources, typical harder to find. Usually ill just drop the sensitivity and roll with it. My favorite issue... change your batteries.

You could always try an EMI clip on filter. They sell 'em on feebay for around 5-6 bucks. I bought one a long time ago and use it with my Safari and a sef 6x8 coil. Not sure how much of a difference it made because I bought both the 6x8 and the filter at the same time but I know the 6x8 has way less interference than the pro coil. I know coil size has a lot to do with the amount of noise you'll hear as well. Either way I had been thinking about this a lot lately and so I went ahead and just ordered another filter for my pro coil. Should arrive within a week or so. Can't hurt ya know. I'll know if it makes a difference with the pro coil right away since I've used the pro coil now for about a year without any filter and am pretty used to how it reacts. It would be nice to think they actually help a little.:minelab:
