EMI question

D&P-OR

Well-known member
Does the Xterra 705 handle emi well?----Is it better (in this regard) than the Tek Omega 8000?---------Thanks, Del

Absolutely! IMO it handles EMI better than any of the First Texas machines.

The only EMI trouble that I've had is when I'm on top of a Wi-fi router that's streaming data, working close to electric fences, or when I forgot and had a dirty motorola cell phone on my person. Working under powerlines isn't normally an issue, but when you move away from under them you should re-noise cancel because another NC channel might be better than when directly under them (harmonics are strange things).

FWIW, the Auto Noise Cancel feature on the 705 can do a much better job of picking a channel than a human can. The machine knows what it is sensitive to better than we do.

I had a Gamma 6000 before I bought my X-terra 70. I only sold the Gamma because of the EMI that I encountered with it. I love this X-terra 70. I can hunt around powerlines and other MDs with no issues whatsoever. As Longhair stated, just auto noise cancel before/after being near powerlines and you will be fine. I haven't experienced any EMI up to this point with the X-terra 70.

I have even been able to do some train stations that were always untouchable. (At busy times they still are.) When it gets really bad-go to Disc- you can still detect some good targets.

There is one place that does cause the 705 and other powerful detectors trouble and that is in and around underground power lines. Surprisingly I've actually had some entry level detectors work better in those kind of places than the better quality units. Believe it is just due to the fact that entry level detectors do not have nearly the sensitivity or depth of the more powerful machines. Guess there will always a niche for every kind of detector.
