youth & energy, that is.

I just finished crawling around in my space between the ceilings & roof. Not really an attic. Well if I could have crouched there it woud have been great. I added some insulation to the water pipes. \No problems with them but my neighbor had some break recently due to the cold snap we had. No one was living there for 2 weeks so it never warmed up inside and then the cold hit.

And now I am down for the rest of the day, resting my old bones. Imagine how much worse I would be if I didn't go detecting each week !

Who put the water pipes up there?

Yes, youth and energy are wasted on the young... We need to have it when we are older! :) Glad you survived and got er done! I am still worn out just from the dr's visit and shopping yesterday evening! I was ill all last night and still am today, so please pray for me! I appreciate everyones' prayers for I couldn't do anything without them! Very bad headache and neckache! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

About 6 years ago the original pipes rusted & started to leak., these were in the foundation. I hired a company to redo the whole house - they ran them in the crawl space. I had all copper ones put in - never have had any problems with them. Throughout the neighborhood this old pipes story is repeated. steve

Seems like most folks in this part of the country replace old copper with pvc. Also most run them in the lower levels so if they get leaks they don't get everything underneath wet.

man it can double the size of ones house for way less than half the investment when built. Some even add basements years later here.

Friends of mine, from Texas, has the same problem. As a building contractor (retired), I've never figured out why anyone would cement the plumbing into the foundation. It would have been much simpler to lay a shallow crawl space (2' in the ground and 2' above) to solve this issue. Trap doors in the floor work very well and can be put just about anywhere. As a matter of fact, I suggested this to a friend of mine, in the Lone Star State, and many down there are now beginning to think like those of us from the North. A similar building problem, with second story living space, exist in southern states as well. For whatever reason, they can't seem to figure out how to build a second story on the home during construction. If I wanted to come out of retirement, I could make a good living, in Texas, in home repair.
