This site is supposed to be for posting finds, don't waste my time by disputing the Etrac on here, go to the Minelab classroom, It's a new machine Big Deal, they were all new at some point but this is getting carried away about the discusions. If you want to try it, then buy it, don't rely on someone else to tell you how good it is or isn't. Now lets see the finds this super machine is supposed to produce.

Best post so far. I come here for info and all I see is whining. Minelab has the right to build whatever they want and of the 5 new machines I bought last year the Minelab is the best built. I will continue to support this company because they make very good stuff but not all their products fit my needs,so------I don't buy them all and I sure don't trash the ones I have never tried. I heard somewhere also that the Etrac was NOT an Explorer or a Xterra but a totally new machine. Now I know that I will order a ETrac because the guys that have tried it seem to like it and if I don't like it I will just sell it, very simple.

I agree somewhat on what you said. Nowhere does it say that the Minelab forum is for picture posts only, but I do agree that a lot of the posts should be posted somewhere else and I would also like to start seeing more posting of pictures of some of the great finds that we as forum members find so we all can share in the joy and excitement of their finds. "A picture can speak a thousand words, but a thousand words does not make a picture". HH.

I think by a long shot most of us are very interested in what this new unit is and what it will do,and posts about it are very welcome here.If you don't care about it or any other posts then don't open them. Just open posts about great wheat cents found today. This is the right place for now

There was a similar amount of discussion when the SE was announced. I know this place is called FindMall, but this forum isn't just for finds. The other poster above is right in that I think most here are very interested in the discussion of the E-Trac whether they're gonna buy one or not - Minelab put a lot of work into this machine and half the fun is understanding the new features that it offers and the design decisions they made. I think creating a separate forum for the E-Trac would be a big mistake as we'd get roughly half the traffic on each forum. Regardless of how it's marketed - the E-Trac is an "Explorer".

Quit your crying....the E-trac posts are clearly marked as such... If you are not interested, you dont have to read them.....

I don't mind the traffic especially if it is interesting to learn if I want to purchase the machine in question. The SE caused as much controversy when it came out as the E-Trac is now. Ppl at the time really wanted an Explorer III instead and Minelab just didn't deliver it all in the SE. There is room for both find and discussion postings on here so why worry about it so much. Just turn on your "I really don't care" filter like I do and carry on browsing the forum. Besides, once the dust settles, the E-Trac posting will start showing up more with the finds and less with the discussion as it always does with new models.

As for a new E-Trac forum, a classroom one would be more beneficial since it is an all new machine just with some Explorer qualities.

cheers...Keith

it looks to me like you may have hit the wrong forum button entirely since 99% of your post involved WHITES detectors.

The E-Trac is the newest MInelab out there and suddenly YOU should decide whether or not the long time posters should discuss it on this forum .... I don't think that's a good idea.

I agree .... if you don't want to be bothered with the E-Trac post ... simply don't read them ... and leave us the hell alone about it :punch:

Seems really simple to me! If you don't like what the subject is, don't open it. Nobody's forcing anything on anyone here. That's why it's a nice place to hang out and read what's of interest. Sounds a bit like sour grapes to me.

Well 17 of the 30 posts on the front page of the Minelab Explorer section are dedicated to the E-Trac, 18 of 30 if you count this post! :) So, it is getting a bit hard to "ignore" the e-trac posts. (some even do not have the words "e-trac" in the subject, gasp!) While I'm not going to demand that people not post about it, I also don't plan on buying an E-trac in the near future. Since I'm not going to be buying one, I'm not too interested in "window shopping" for one while I'm forum hopping. (read into that comment as, it'll make having no cash for a new toy even more painful!) When it is time to upgrade, I'm sure I'll be looking into the e-trac. By then FindMall will have a new section on E-trac. I only hope it's sooner than later.

I did put in a "contact us" ticket asking if they plan to create a new forum topic, as most agree, this is definately not an Explorer.

Anyway, I've been glossing over this section of late, taking most of your above advice well before it was given and not really bothering to visit it. While I can't condone the manner in which TominPA made his post, which was most abrasive, I thought I should chime in and note that other(s) feel the content is getting a bit lopsided. Also, like with anything new, or with change, people tend to fear it. When that happens, you get a lot of posts that are negative/whiny. Even skimming through the subjectst trying to find posts on an Explorer, I can't stop myself from thinking Je$#%@#%@, you are lucky enough to have $1500 laying around to buy a new toy and you're complaining? Perhaps that's my issue! :)

Anyway, take care, and please, if you are un-happy with your e-trac, PM me and I'll provide you with ship to information. I'll even pay for shipping. :)

As far as I'm concerned I remember just as many posts about the SE when it first came out, but I see you've only been a member here for the past 5 months. Yeah, I know mine only says a couple months too, but I changed my handle to include NJ - I've been here since 1999 - 2000 timeframe. Making a separate forum for the E-Trac's finds is a VERY bad idea. It may have been given a different name and be better than the Explorer, but make no mistake about it - it's just the next generation Explorer. I think a classroom would be a good idea though I doubt it would get much use -- the Explorer classroom is a snooze....., but separate forum no.

I see no relevance or correlation to number of posts made and making an educated well thought out, intelligent post. Your hostility towards me is surprising, as I thought my post was far from abrasive and did not warrant such a response. I'll just chalk it up to your passion for metal detecting and not give it another thought.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on the evolution of the Explorer versus a new line of detector from Minelab.

I don't post my finds on the Minelab Explorer section unless I feel it is specific to a Minelab Explorer, I prefer to share with all in the Friends and Finds section. I normally search the Explorer section to get feedback on the explorer and accessories for it.

Enjoy,

Jai

Well I don't think my response was hostile at all - methinks you are being a bit sensitive :cheekkiss:. I was trying to say that if you'd been around here the last time a new Explorer model was released - about three years ago you would have seen the same type of thing - tons of posts and questions about the new SE. Everyone here loves metal detecting and loves the Explorer - I find it kind of annoying that some are complaining about some very well written and intelligent posts about the E-Trac - heck even as an Explorer user (as I am - I have an E-Trac, but have not used it yet) you can learn a lot from many of these well informed posts. It's almost like people are trying to censor the forum. Sorry, but it's a forum, not just a place for displaying finds. There is no separate forum for the E-Trac and quick frankly I hope there never is as it will split up this great group of very talented people - where do you suggest we put these posts? On the Garrett forum?
