Erie RR?

Dodqe

New member
Found this tonight...

Another 1700's (I'm guessing) copper (that makes 7 from my hill so far!) and a small (5/8" dia), thick (approx. 1/8"), heavy (about 3.5g) token of some sort.
The token says 'ERIE RR' on one side, and *something* on the other. Can't make it out. It's offset quite a bit, and looks like it was struck too lightly.

I know the large coin is almost impossible to ID, but I am dying to know what the Erie token is... Any RR buffs out there?

I'll guess it is a lead seal of some sort, to mark luggage or freight.

Definatly a lead and wire tamper seal but can't say what for, maybe the cargo door?
Here is a site that still supplies them as well as the crimp pliers

Hah. looks correct! See those two little bumps sticking out at the top? My magnet sticks to them. That's remnants of the steel wire... Cool. Thanks guys!
