Etrac - 11 Channels

Diggler

Member
Some people let the Etrac analyze the ground and automatically pick a channel. Some people prefer channel 5, 9 or whatever. Has anyone ever took the time to test their garden, or even air test, the same signals with all 11 different channels? Was just wondering if all 11 channels use the same frequencies or if each channel uses a different set of frequencies? Would be nice to now if certain channels were hotter on certain FE/CO...

I don't know maybe it is me,But I seem to get more silver on 7 or 11. When ever I noise cancel and I end up on one of those channels I seem to have a good silver day. Then again maybe I think it is that way because they are lucky gambling numbers. Anyway it would be nice to test that theory.

I believe the "channels" have to do with the Sens settings. I think there is three channels 1,2 and 3. Depending where your Auto sens is running 10-20-30 is what channel your in. Manual anywhere puts you in channel 3. Channel 3 being the strongest.

I don't think the noise cancel channels have any effect other than making the ET more stable in it surrounding environment.

I just thought that might be because it operates on different frequencies...?

I have done a lot of testing in the air,in the field and test garden on many different targets and found little if any difference in depth regardless of channel.I have found the quietest channel in 30 manual sensitivity to work best for me and my sites. The difference in frequencies from 1 -11 is very minute and should effect depth very little, however EMI noise is where it shines,Ray.

There are eleven NC channels on the ETRAC. And each channel represents a "set" of the twenty eight 1.5 kHz to 100 kHz frequencies used in FBS technology. In the Sovereign (BBS series) all 17 frequencies were separated by 1.5 kHz. As I understand it, with the FBS detectors, the 28 frequencies are not spaced at that same 1.5 kHz interval. Instead, the spacing between the frequencies varies within each of the eleven NC channels. This was done to allow the FBS detectors to chose the "best" set of frequencies by analyzing the conditions and assigning a specific channel (set of frequencies) that the software has determined should minimize the effects of outside interference and ground conditions. Another application would be when two FBS detectors are hunting "side by side". The first one to set their NC will chose the channel best suited for the site, based on the conditions mentioned. The second one will chose a channel based on those same conditions, plus the effects of the "interference" which can occur when two similar detectors are operating near each other. Since the Auto NC mode is intended to maximize the performance of the detector at any given site, and each channel is comprised of a "mix" of frequencies, I doubt there would be any difference in how it interprets FE/CO values. I've dabbled with the NC channel selection quite a bit. I'll let the AUTO NC do it's thing and then manually change it. The only difference I can find is instability of operation when certain channels are selected, at specific sites. AUTO NC has avoided those channels each and every time. JMHO HH Randy
