Etrac at the park today

Jim upstate NY

Hunted an old park for 4 hours this AM with the etrac..
Used the park pattern, man sens at 20, difficult ground, high trash.. conductive audio
Didn't find anything but fresh lost 71 cents in clad, again not surprising this place I have pounded pretty good.. did find 2 mercs and a seated dime last time out with the explorer there though.
Todays revelations..
with the park pattern and man sens was pretty much in a null the whole time.. the surprising thing was I was getting few solid signals at all, I mean not even trash signals.. I did dig a couple shallow screw caps. So after a while I switched to auto sens, and watched as it dropped to 14 sens setting and stayed there most of the time.. in auto Surprisingly enough the threshold returned fairly solid, which I also thought strange as I know how much iron is there, but again a lack of signals.. I am thinking if you use auto you might want to use the -3 limit setting so it doesn't drop so much you lose all depth? at least if thats what its does.. Gonna b go back and re read teh manual again on these sensitivity settings

I know there are plenty of pull tabs and screw caps around.. went to quick mask wide open and heard loads of signals, so not sure what's going on.
seems like there must be much masking going on with the park pattern.. I only dug one square pull tab and it was less than an inch deep.

I also noticed a lot of high toned iffys, that would read up on the 1-39 area and jump to the 15-39 area.. switching to quick mask I found the culprit was something reading 35-39 solid, but off about 6 inches of center, so the edge of the coil is catching it and reading it much less ferrous than it really is.. I didn't dig any of them to see what it was.. I assume nails from the cross hair location being near bottom right, sounded real good with wide open screen.. starting to think maybe something is wrong with my machine. Before leaving I set the ground setting to neutral and starting getting a few more signals.. so could be I shouldn't be using that difficult mode.. just figured with all the iron and crap the difficult would be the way to go?

Also got a few toned high spikes off the bottle caps.. these things really do read all over the ferrous scale..
Still up in the air on this.. The sites I took it to are both spanked pretty good, so Its not like I expected to find much, but was hoping.. will try again at a newer place I have that should have plenty of stuff left.. I will keep trying
Maybe I should try a smaller coil in these spots.. but I have been using the pro coil on the SE without much problem.. Haven't tried the X8 or X5 on it yet.. Might help a bit...

Maybe you could try going with the Explorer first and mark some targets with golf tees or something. Then go back over them with the ET and experiment with the settings since you will already have an idea of what is under the coil.
