Etrac in plowed field...

Hi, I read in a review that FBS technology works great in parks and schoolyards but plowed fields give them fits,,, any comments??? Thanks

The size of the clods let behind the plow give me fits sometimes but plowed fields seem to have fairly even ground conditions due to the fact that the soil keeps getting turned about. One thing to consider if your detecting in a plowed field is this. Are the clods all evenly moist? moisture makes all the difference in the places I hunt. Sometimes moist soil is better and sometimes dry soil is better depending on the minerals in the soil. Also if the clods are dense and not tightly packed the air pockets can give you trouble as well. Many people used to say(may still do) that minelabs multi frequency machines have trouble in ploughed(plowed) fields due to the air pockets in the freshly turned soil.I have used both the sovereign and quattro for hunting these types of field and have never had a problem.I also know many multi frequency minelab users that have excellent results on ploughed land so i would'nt worry about it too much. One of the most successful detectorists i know uses an old minelab explorer....most of his success comes from detecting ploughed land.Enough said i think.

Hi weeniedog55, I would talk to Terry(Goes4ever). He hunts plowed fields with great success.

Not true. In England that is THE thing to use. FBS in plowed fields. I use it in plowed fields and they work great. Just go slow and low! Set your audio to long or smooth, better IMO smooth.

Don't forget to set the Ground mode to Normal from Difficult for sandy and plowed areas. It's recommended in Andy's book. I would play with this setting after I found a target to see if there is a difference.

Thank you all for your comments, that helps alot... I live in southern Utah and hunt alot of ghost towns... I'm upgrading detectors and one ghost town in particular is a field that is plowed and I was curious how the Etrac would handle it... Sounds like it will work fine...
