Thanks for the "raw footage" video. You have demonstrated what I've also encountered in the field.......... the X-TERRA and ETRAC are a dynamic duo! I very- VERY seldom find a target with one detector that can't be detected with the other, regardless of which detector I happened to have in my hand when I first hit upon the target. Just a matter of using different settings and tones, for the different technologies. Both are excellent detectors. Thanks for sharing. HH Randy

.......the XTerra hit EVERY target the ETrac did when doing this video Randy.
Some of you may know......I had to give up my ETrac due to vehicle problems and having a huge garage bill to pay.
I now spend more of my time on the XTerra forum as a consequence.

I have to say......using the XTerra doesn't feel like a comprimise to me. I look forward to taking it out and have no loss of confidence.
The Sensitivity was on 30 all day and so was the Tracking GB......stable as a rock.

Gaz.

Blimey Gaz, you had the sens on 30 all day!.....must be a nice clean field!

I've never tried tracking ground balance.......doesn't it balance out targets if you X over the target too much?

Great vid by the way, I thought that target that was locked on 22 was gonna be a hammie for sure!

Gaz, as you know, I have both an E-TRAC and an X-TERRA 705. If I were to go out hunting and someone went with me that didn't have a detector, it wouldn't matter to me which one I used. I agree with your comment......the XTerra doesn't feel like a comprimise!

I get :stars: when I see posts saying they've "upgraded" from an X-TERRA to another detector. They show us some finds they made with the "new" detector, from places they claim were "hunted to death" with their X-TERRA. Funny thing is, they usually go back again and again with that new detector, and continue to find yet more coins. I always wondered......."if the new machine is so much better, how can they still continue to find coins at those same sites, with every return visit? If it were so much better, how could that "new" detector miss them on the previous hunts? If there is a reason, why doesn't that same "logic" apply to the previous trips with the X-TERRA? Could it be that they just didn't put the coil over the target? I admit that I still find coins in sites that I've hunted for the better part of 40 years. Most of them in acres and acres of tilled soil. But I'll also admit that it has as much to do with the the "performance" of the detectorist as it does the performance of the detector. I've done hundreds of hours of "head to head" testing, much like you and Des demonstrated in your video. I start with one detector, find a target, mark it and recheck it with the other detector before digging. Doesn't matter which one I start with or which one I confirm with. They both are excellent detectors. And neither one is a compromise. JMHO HH Randy

.....yep....wise words Randy!!

Clive......the most I've ever dropped to is 28 I think with the sensitivity. Mostly it's 30 all the time....no popping or chirping at all.
I always use the tracking GB Clive. I've tried but I've never been able to track out a target to date. You'd have to move really slow to do that I guess.
We were expecting some more finds but had to cut the trip short........

Cheers Gaz

I run 95% of the time at sens 28, seems to be the best all round setting. I generally have the threshold at 5, auto ground balance every 15 mins or so (or when I think soil has changed appearance) and 4 tones, I have -8, -6, -4 and +46 and +48 taken out of pattern 1. When I get a nice 2 way signal I switch to all metal to confirm it isn't the eddy currents off the end of a buried tractor, then dig.

I'm open to your method of having it wide open in one of the patterns so you can hear all the good signals next to large iron....I'll give it a go.

Clive

Hi Gaz

Thanks for the video
Sorry you had to sell your ET...maybe you can get the Mark II if/when it comes out :)
I love both my ET and my Xt
I use the ET amongst iron strewn sites and looking for deep old coins and the Xt for modern or when I want to cover a lot of area fast.
I guess I am a Minelab man :spin:

Great video Gaz, thanks for taking the time to share with us.

My wife and I have both the X-70 and the X-705 giving us the opportunity to hunt with different kHz coils and check each others targets.

Short of using an E-Trac and an X-Terra together what a great combo that makes.

Good Hunting,

Denny

How about some info on what you did to your Pro Pointer? It looks like you fastened to it somehow and added a coiled lanyard. I'm worried about losing mine, I'm curious what and how you did it?

.....yeah....no great mystery Rod!!!!

I had a nylon type adjustable strap that came off a camera bag or something like that....can't remember where. I folded the end over and just used black
insulation tape around the pinpointer. The other end was already looped and sewn so I just put a small carabena through it and attached it
to a loop on my Molle bag.

......I hadn't really thought too much about it but it works a treat.
