Even a blind pig finds a truffle now and then.

Went out yesterday to the new freeway site. Was out about 5 hours. Not finding much but newer coins. A couple of dimes and 10-15 pennies.
Searching with the Digger in AM with tracking on, there is so much trash, after about 4 hours of this I decided to switch to disc pattern 1 and see what comes up. Right away I get a 1940 S wheat. A few minutes later up pops a 1942S Washington quarter.
Two silver quarters in two weeks! Woohoo! Good times are here again!
I seem to do so much better in AM, but it was nice to find a small truffle in disc mode.

Nice! I haven't tried any disc modes yet. I know at some point I'm going to want to hunt in a quieter environment, so its good to see folks being successful using them.

Yea, it surprized me. I was just getting tired of hearing every little signal and thought I would cherry pick to see what I get. This place has been hammered by the local MD group so there isn't much left. Once in a while though I get an IH, or barber dime. I don't think they spend a whole lot of time listening for the small signals between trash. That's why I likened it to a blind pig, kind of feeling around in the dark with disc in that kind of trash.

Every option on your machine has it's place. Sometimes I like AM, sometimes Disc mode with nothing notched out, sometimes Disc mode with -8 & 48 notched out, etc.... Sometimes even in Prospector mode utilizing the IM discrimination.
The real point is, that if what you're doing isn't working, or is too mentally taxing, change something.

Those are adjacent segments if you think about "circular discrimination" theory. By knocking out those two numbers, you virtually eliminate "wrap-around" effect.

All Metal teaches you what proper swing speed is, so the biggest issue when adding DISC of any sort is to remember how slow you should swing. You still need to isolate and search the edges of nulled objects, to see if there's a good target hiding nearby. Swinging too fast will miss that close-to-trash goody every time.

OK. I totally agree with slowing down in AM. I think that's why I am finding a few things at these spots. The others are getting the easy stuff and the coins I am finding are right next to and in between the trash. Skipped over, essencially.
I don't think I quite picked up on the circular disc. Read it, but didn't click.

Congrat's on the silver Washington and wheat.

I hunt in AM most of the time when doing farm fields but their is times I get tired of all the noise and go in to Pattern 1 with only #3 notched out. Most times when I'm turf hunting I'm in pattern 1 and some times in AM. Like OLH said when in Pattern mode it's easy to swing way too fast so you have to keep in mind to keep it slow when in a pattern mode.

Bill think of the disc as a clock, (with -8 being 12:00 am & 48 being 12 pm). The numbers start at 12 AM and go to 12 PM using the stock 7.5 kHz frequency. The higher frequency coils push the numbers higher so instead of the clock stopping at twelve, it will now go around to one o'clock more often on higher conductors like silver. Inversely, with the 3khz coil the 'clock' will stop closer to eleven and not jump into the one o'clock area (as much) so the higher conductivity signals don't get pushed into the large silver & wrap around into the low iron zone. The LF Digger coil will be less prone to hitting so hard on iron and the silver will lock on better, but the lower conductors will be a bit more 'confusing' for the 3khz. The HF 6" coil I have been using definitely hits harder on (& I dig more) iron than the stock coil did (not quite as bad as the Vaq tho). I dig more rusty bottle caps that lock on like quarters (ID# 42 on the 505) but lower conductors lock on solid and I definitely am digging more nickels than ever. Hope this made some sense, after reading it I'm not really sure myself, lol!

I don't know how much I agree about the LF coil not hitting so hard on iron. I get good 42s that turn out to be nails at 5" or more. Crown bottle caps hit hard, but their numbers are almost always 46. Sometimes they are 44 until the hole is opened, so I always dig them. Silver quarters come in at 44.
None of it matters much for me though. I have only used the stock coil once in the past 1 1/2 months. I really like what the combination of the Digger and the 705 tells me before I even dig.
I just wasn't certain about circular disc, I understand it now.

Ok, not actually using the digger coil, this was more of an assumption I had, based on the modified target bins of the LF coil. I did notice today that I dug less iron that rang in like quarters with the 7.5 kHz coil than I did at the same site yesterday with the HF coil, I just thought the opposite would be true with the 3khz coil. I guess it's more of the harmonic response on iron (like Longhair said) that makes the difference in the great silver finding (in iron trash) ability of the Digger coil. Glad it's working out for ya!

Well Scott, I totally agree about digging less iron. I still dig my fair share, but not like I did with big 'T'. With Digger and 705 I pretty much know what I'm digging beforehand. Love it, never had that before.
I also feel way more confident searching in disc with this machine, obviously it picks out good silver between the trash.
