Ever have one of those days?

Went out today for about 5 hours hitting old school yards, I could not seem to pull anything out of the ground. It took over an hour to pull my first clad out. I do not know what I was doing wrong, as I kept getting more and more discouraged. My buddies with much simpler machines were doing great on the modern stuff. It must of been one of those days where I did not get the coil over anything but trash. I changed settings, I even went back to factory presets. I will tell you this hobby has a way of sending you back to square one sometimes. Well tomorrow will be better. Just had to vent, so I could clear my head.

not to get into a negative mood. Always try and be positive when out hunting....especially when you have hunting partners. Just because you see them digging a lot when your not doesn't mean they have hit the motherload. I find a lot of times that my hunting partner's seem to be digging more targets than me but then at the end of the hunt, I find out that they were digging lots of trash and deeper Clad. All it takes is 1 Wheatie or even a Clad Coin spill to re-spark your positive thinking if your in a slump so just keep on swingin'.

Also, if you work a pattern in an area your finds should increase since then you are covering the ground thoroughly and coming across any Coins more often.

One other thing.....always take a look at your surroundings and try to look for spots where other hunters wouldn't go first off like along roads or any off the beaten paths that you see. You maybe surprised at what maybe waiting for your Coil.

Best of Luck and HH to you and hope to hear you had a great hunt next time you post.

let yourself get discouraged.

Keep it fun...and don't worry about what others around you are finding. Sometimes the coil just simply doesn't pass over the goodies...it's that simple.

You might go back tomorrow and find all kinds of good targets...while everyone else is diggin' the trash:clapping:

You want discouragement do a little field hunting. Sifting thru the trash for HOURS without a decent target.... but at the end of a day you get one coin. Hopefully that coins is at least an IH. James is right take a look at the surroundings and choose your spot then grid it out carefully. Dont get hung up on trying to cover 20 acres. Like you said its all about getting the targets under the coil.... low and slow works. Sometimes digging more targets gets interesting. Try not to talk yourself out of digging iffy targets. All the new bells and whisles can cause you to pass up some of those deep targets.

I know you guys are all right, it was just a crazy day and one I want behind me. I love this hobby and even the bad days are great, it is just nice to have this forum to vent and get support from fellow detectionist's to get you through those kind of days. Thanks all.

If you are using a Sunray X-1 pinpointer, make sure you didn't leave the toggle switch on PROBE! :rolleyes: You can hunt for a long time and not hear much. OOOOOOPS!

This ain't funny Rich!!! After I first got mine, I left it on. I wear 8" pliers on the right side of my belt. Honest to goodness, I went 10 minutes before I'd figured it out. There wasn't anyone around for 1/2 mile and I was red-faced embarrassed!!! I thought I'd found the absolutetly "trashiest" place on the planet.

Dew. Don't get overly discouraged. I know what you're going through. I loaned my X-Terra out to a friend. We both went on his land. There was an old small town there from 1880's - 1950's. He went 2 minutes and found a 1941 nickel. I went 2 1/2 hrs and found 1 smashed thimble. I did enjoy hunting though!!

Take care,
